LULZ. I typed Dr. Crap, at first.

Dr Crab freaked my ass out, too.

....him and his collection of virgin blood o_______________o;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;

Every time he made an appearance in the book, I cringed.

I'm tempted but Kazuo DOES have a point, I'm actually terribly picky about book-to-movie transitions. If it's not JUST right, I go into a random bitchfest about it XD

Yeah.
Perfect example of bitchfestworthy book-to-movies are the Harry Potters. And I beg Kaz not to comment on that, for the sake of my fragile heart that holds Harry Potter very dear.
The HP movies sgtikrdhyjklhnlk j I want to shoot JKR for letting them go on!
But..
Emma watson is hot..so...O.o
anyway
BACK TO MEMOIRS!

Don't worry. HP doesn't interest me in the least, so all I'll do is watch the movies, if they're on.

The movies don't even come CLOSE to the genius that is JKR

I started a book once. It found its way into my trash can.. somehow. :O Really, I don't see the genius in it at all. If you want creative, literary genius..

I honestly don't remember, as it's been a long time since I read the book. Sorry. OTZ

But yeah; the ending of the book was very vivid to me and when I watched the movie ending, I was "WAT HELL NO DDDD:".

I should go to bed. Tomorrow, I guess. If talk is still going on . . .

I adored the book and the movie. I prefer the book though, because...well it's already been mentioned about the characters and all that stuff not really the same as in the novel. Overall though I thought the movie was beautiful visually, and I loved it anyway, despite the flaws.

^ I agree with Monophobia on the visuals of the movie<3 My friend actually went to LA where they shot the garden scene at the end of the movie, and took pictures...I could post them if you want, the trees are really gorgeous.
I didn't really warm to the storyline of the movie though...I know it was never going to have as much detail as the book did, as all book-to-movie collaberations do, but it was still...kinda disappointing. :|
I voted that they were both ok...the book was a good book, and I found it really interesting, but...I've read better.

I heard House of Leaves is a pretentious monster filled with silly gimmicks instead of a real plot : | (Like backwards pages or text that spirals inward) seems silly to me.

But I liked the book and movie : D Hatsumomo pwn.

And yet I wonder if Memoirs of a Geisha wasn't having a thing to do with Japan, if there would even be a thread about it here. :/

Sounds like those people have the reading level, and general intelligence, of a 5th grader. How sad that they missed the entire plot and reading experience. They weren't gimmicks, they were there to make it more than a story. I'd rather have a book that makes it a memorable experience, rather than a unimaginative piece of trash. But if that's too gimmicky for them, they can always find one of those Goosebumps books where you choose your own path. ::meev::

@Orchid: I agree. If you can't apply the words "kawaii" or "kakkoii" it's not cool. :|

EDIT: I find this wikipedia entry about House of Leaves to be more interesting by itself than Memoirs of a Geisha (the actual book).

The plot seems way more interesting(even though I am a sucker for historical stuff, I am a bigger dork for anything supernatural without being overly dumb). But I don't know if I'd want to bother reading pages backwards or spiraling text. It just seems like a pain..Maybe I'm lazy.

I've been looking for it in stores and I can't find it : | Is it in horror?

Holy geez, Kazuo. I need to find this book now. ::firedevil:: ::k::

I never watched the movie, but the book was fine. A little rushed in the end after Hatsumomo was driven out... but still, a good book. A lot of mental imagery. I'd only see the movie for the vibrance of imaginary plot devices come to life. X3
