I once read that the Japanese didn't consider themselves Asians and would say "I'm going to Asia" whenever they went to China, Korea and everywhere else!

Also they considered themselves superior to "Asians" and inferior to Westerners.

They always were an enigma to me. But then the French frame of mind is light years from theirs...

In fact, it feels slightly strange when an old person isn't at least mildly racist, sexist and/or homophobic. I mean, I facepalmed when my middle-english Step-Grandmother talked about how she'd panicked when her son had told her his new girlfriend had dark hair in case it meant she was black "I'm sure we'd grow to love her and her family eventually, but it would be a shock, wouldn't it?", to quote her- but on the other hand it's the sort of drabble pensioners are supposed to come out with. The presence of a foreigner is meant to reduce them to jelly- especially if they're from a rural area like she is. I let her have it.

She reads the Daily Mail anyway (A British print version of Fox News, if that explains anything. Also known as 'The Daily Heil', 'The Daily Fail' and my personal favourite, 'The Daily Wail') and that tends to have a funny effect on people who take it too seriously. Besides clunky comments about black people, my Step-Grandmother is convinced that the Russians, the Chinese, and the 'Arabs' are going to band together and obliterate every other country, and I'm blaming that rag for it.

I think insisting on being separate from every other country is just an Island Nation thing. It's the same here in Britain, most people hate the Special Relationship with the USA but don't really want to cosy up to with EU either. They just want to be 'British', not attached to anywhere else. In fact the reason we still don't have the Euro is (probably) because there is so much resistance to the idea of losing the pound that any Government who introduced it would then have to pull something amazingly brilliant to stand any sort of chance of being re-elected.

I use to work in a retirement home and if a resident wasn't out right racist they just said things that where pretty offensive or racist without realizing it. You couldn't really get mad because you just have to remember they're from a totally different generation (Where things like black face and this where normal). However also all of the people there you could tell where pretty well off before their children stripped them of all their finances and abandoned them there. So some where also just pretty pompous and snotty.

My Grandma really hates Koreans, I don't know why! LOL! She's like SHIT KOREANS ARE LAZY AND HAVE BAD ANGER! ::kiwi:: She likes my Chinese boyfriend though ~ Weird.

All in all, racism sucks though :|

I don't understand what is supposed to be so good about GPK's voice.

I kept expecting Kiwamu to just break out in a fit of sudden rage for no reason. How disappointing.
