Hey, so I was thinking... there must be at least a few of us here who do websites besides me, and since it came up in my other thread: what resolution does everyone here run their screen at? I figure the results should be useful, so please vote ^_^

800x600. Got it a bit more than two years ago, and even though everyone says, "No one uses 800x600 anymore! And anyone who does is an idiot!", I can't just go out and buy a new monitor/computer.

1280x1024.

I think it is safe to say that you can get away with desiging your sites these days with 1024x768 or higher in mind. Alsthough all my sites are made so that 800x600 can look at them, they just might not look as good.

And Arison... a couple years ago? What kind of monitor is it? Even up to like 4 years or so, they have pretty much been packing in monitors that are quite capable of displaying 1024x768. Yours can not?

Also, does your webhost provide stats? Mine provides this info about all the visitors. I would give you some info if I could log into my cpanel right now. Let me restart my pc and I will be back -_-/

Mine has a bunch of stats, but not resolution...

And yeah, I'm trying to figure out how to make my page at least a little more 800x600-friendly... like, say, a horizontal scrollbar. XD

I also design primarily for 1024x768 and higher. Some pages on Industry look really weird on 800x600, though they are still readable. But hey, don't feel too bad about it because even half of Kozi's website in completely unaccesable on 800x600...

Two years ago as of last Christmas. It was a present from my parents (both my brother and I got the same computer), so I had no choice in what was on the computer, how it looked, ect. I do have support for 1280x1024, but there are always sites where the text is overlapping, I can't see some of the site because there isn't a horizontal scroll bar, or there's just something wrong with how the site looks (though it sometimes has to do with the fact I use Firefox, and it shows sloppy coding errors, unlike IE).

I am doing my best to get a new monitor, but it's still a ways off. o_o/

1280x1024. It sometimes gets changed to 1024x768 because my mum can't read it that "small" but I just change it back

I don't understand. You say you can already use 1280x1024 now? Or do you mean that your video card can output 1280 but your monitor can't display it?

Anything bigger gives me eyestrain. =\ (And anything smaller makes me grumble for more space.) I like this resolution. It's very comfortable.

I'm not quite sure how to explain it, as I have very little knowledge of computers, and how they work, but what happens is if the site doesn't support any size under what the person coded it for, everything looks cramped and overlaps.

I may have worded my first explanation incorrectly. ^^; Sorry.

My main websurfing computer is 800 x 600. I didn't choose the resolution, it's a secondhand laptop I got for free, and I can't easily upgrade the monitor. My other computer has a 1024 x 768 screen... also secondhand and free. I live in a tiny little expensive Tokyo studio and there's no way I'm going to blow wads of money on an enormous monitor.

I HATE website layouts which have serious problems at 800x600. It's unnecessary. 90% of the sites which go over that size are using the space for nothing more important than whitespace or functionless graphics. Usually I just close them immediately without ever bothering to check them again on my "big" monitor. I figure if the webmaster had content they considered worth presenting, they'd make an effort to make it presentable to everyone.

is where it's at now, but I usually use 1024x768

I think that most webmasters play it safe and make their sites at 800x600
