Moi dix Mois
"Invite to Immorality" Europeen-tour, 26.03. - 28.03. 2005
On 26th March 2005 the first concert of the japanese cult-formation outside of japan took place in the "Großen Georg-Elser-Halle" in munich. The band around style-icon Mana gets more and more famous in germany and accordingly the expectations were high. Around 1.200 fans came, to witness this very special premiere, and they weren't disappointed.
According to the japanese traditions of "one man live" there were no supporting act, instead dark sphere-sounds prepared for the upcoming event. Accurate at 20:30 o'clock Moi dix Mois entered the stage, totally dressed in extravagant clothers from Moi-même-Moitié, the very own modelable of multi-talent Mana, and directly began with one of their strongest songs, the grandiose "the Prophet". This directly declared the topic of the evening. They nearly only played fast, aggresive songs, which gave the Japanese the oppurtunity to show their dynamic side: "front et baiser", "La dix croix", "Pessimiste", "Nightbreed", "Vizard", "Ange", "Forbidden", and "Shadows temple" really worked up the audience, while "Nocturnal Romance" and the wonderful "Dialogue Symphonie" gained even more fascination under the use of the new member K's second guitar. Beside from songs of "Dix infernal" and "Nocturnal Opera" Moi dix Mois also presented a new song named "Unmoved", where the two guitars could completely be used for the first time. For the intro Mana and K rotationally played short, strong passages and finally jumped in the actually song together. "Unmoved" can be compared with "Vizard" or "the Prophet". The audience was euphoric from the beginning, and this mood transfered to the band, whom one could really annotate the fun on playing.
Vocalist Juka danced and whirled on the stage, so that his long black cloack never stopped flackering, flirted with the audience and changed without effort from loud screaming to melodic tremolos, where he hit even the highest notes with infallible sureness. His special voice was especially beautiful during romantic songs like "monophobia", "Vestige" and "Mephisto Waltz", while - during "Perish" - he showed his erotic side. Juka's elated charme was an interesting contrast to K, which held the role of the menacing demon, which he could totally fullfill with his partly shaven-headed hair-style, white contact lenses and inflexible marionette-like movement.Bass singer Kazuno was well-known good humored, hopped up and down while playing and grinned like a Cheshire cat. Drummer Tohru happily sang along and winked at the audience. Mana was... Mana: endlessly graceful and feminine. Moi dix Mois' leader and guitarist may be beautiful and silent like a doll, but he has a stage-presence one simply can not elude. In a tight corded corset and gigantic plateau-boots he nearly seemd fragile, but also radiated an unbelievable energy. Unresting he found dramatic new positions while banging and searched the eye-contact with the fans. Thereby one could notice that he got every single aspect of the show under control. Mana and K frequently changed sides, and during one of the most beautiful moments the whole band (beside drummer Tohru, of course) stood in the middle of the stage with one foot on the loud speaker before them. In spite of the language barrier the communication with the audience succeed - K also learned some german! - and in the twinkling of an eye the "Parapara", belonging to "Nightbreed" and "Forbidden", was imitated with great enthusiasm, just like during "Pageant", the traditional last song of every Moi dix Mois concert.
After one and a half hour the magic sadly ended and Moi dix Mois left the stage totally exhausted. The audience did not want to settle for this - like it seemed - way to short performance and at first shouted "Zu-ga-be" (addition/encore), then "En-co-re" and finally simply "Moi dix Mois". After long minutes of shouting it got dark again and Mana entered the stage once again to bown down and distribute symbolic kisses to the still rioting crowd. Then he definitely disapeared and left behind a totally happy audience, because this evening will stay as a great memory for long time.
The second and last station of Moi dix Mois' europeen-tour took place on march teh 28th in the city of lights: Paris. The - with 800 spots - comparatively small, but traditional club "La Locomotive" was sold-out to the last centimetre, and according to this the audience's mood was on "storm" from the beginning. In spite of the sloppy organisation the fans welcomed the guests from the land of the rising-sung condignly and already demanded Moi dix Mois long before the beginning. When the band finally showed up on the stage - with a 30min delay - the audience was totally euphoric from the first second and sang out loud the japanese lyrics. Again Moi dix Mois made an amazing performance, and soon the euphoric of the audience knew no limits. The Japanese played the same songs as in Munich, but they learned from their experience and splitted the material a way, that they could play a three songs-long addition. When Juka finally announced "Pageant" he was short of breath and could hardly talk. But this could not hinder him from giving his best and so "Pageant" became the most unforgetable song of the evening, when he let "Parapara" be "Parapara" and just whirled around in black-blue smoke - while Mana, Kazuno and K seesawed to the rythmn. Like in Munich also this concert was filmed and one can look forward to a live-DVD!
The instruments were already stored and the stage as good as stooped, but the audience still shouted for "Moi dix Mois". Finally even the most persistent fans had to realize that every Good has an end.
Moi dix Mois should be more than satisfied with the end of their first europeen-tour: One concert totally sold-out, the other nearly sold-out, and the merchandise was sold so good, that many fans did not even see the items. Their breath-stealing performance should have broght the japanese "Goth-Gods" dozens of new fans, and so one can hope, that they will visit us again soon, to lead us again in their mysterious world of beauty and abysmally darkness. Hopefully this night is not to far away!
