o.o I'm very tempted to say I'll send something in... but knowing me, I'll forget. *writes it on calendar anyway*

I'm working on a fairly large three part jrock tribute painting (as in... ah... 24 x 36 inches each. Or something like that >_>) in school right now. No one knows who the hell I'm painting, but it's all good (and sort of applies to the assignment of painting one's "spirituaity" xD) I'm a good ways into the Ryutaro part, but I could skip the Kyo to do the Klaha part. Unfortunately, it's both too large for me to scan and I have to turn it in (no sending the original :().

So... that was sort of pointless o.o Maybe I'll do a BIG HUGE MASSIVE separate Klaha painting. Yes.

I can't seem to find my file with Klaha's mailing address. So, I went to MA and saved the .jpg. This is the current one, yes?

Atra, no thanks, I don't think I will in Italy anytime soon ^^

Mouse Pirate - Don't forget! Or you'll never forgive yourself (well, maybe not...erm). As for spirituality, I referenced MM and the Dalai Lama in the same sentance the other day and g ot an odd look. It was a little exageration.... :roll:

Ahaha. Dalai Lama and MM xD. The other day a friend of mine informed me that I'm not an atheist because I worship Klaha ^^;;;

About the painting, though. I didn't forget :D

I'm on Thanksgiving break right now, so I should be able to finish in a few days. It's going to be all fluffy and symbolic, and not as big as I'd hoped (too cheap to go out and buy an actual canvas, so I'm using a random piece of wood >>). I was kind of thinking of a tryptic as I started on it, so it's a Klaha timeline from right to left of Pride of Mind Klaha, Malice Mizer Klaha, and solo Klaha.

As for the fluffy symbolism... I'm going to do an overly fancy arrow pointing to the left. Hopefully he'll see it and go something like, "oh! Continue making music? Continue being cute? Okay!"

Crappy scan of the finished part (solo Klaha):
klarhar.jpg

It's a bit distorted and discolored since it wasn't flush to the scanner (it's still wet =/). But you get the picture.

... oh, bad pun. BAD PUN.

I'm off~

Atra - Thanks for pointing out the eyebrows ^^ I totally didn't notice how massive they were until you pointed that out >_< I was trying to make them more natural like he has them now (as opposed to the uber-waxed fancy things in his Malice Mizer days). Turns out they're a bit too natural :).

And that mullet-like growth... Yeah. Fixing that too *nod*.

Also, mix-up in my previous post. It's right to left solo Klaha, Malice Mizer Klaha, then Pride of Mind Klaha. I don't think anyone noticed... but yeah. Clarification anyway :).[/i]

Critiques are more than welcome, so if anyone else sees anything but is feeling too polite to comment, please feel free to point out my mess ups.

Very nice painting! It has an almost Van Gogh-eque quality in both the brushstrokes and the choice of pallete that I really like. The pose is also dynamic and the blue brushstrokes give the composition a lot of energy. Did you use textured layering for the paint, or is that flat?

One question: is that red or orange you used as a underpainting for the background? Orange would be better to compliment the blue, I think, but I can't tell if that's what you did, or if it's just the scan. Also, you might want to link in the blue stroke on the right with the rest a little better as it would create a much more flowing negative space for the background, but it's up to you, really.

Nice work! :D

Thank you for the nice comments on my painting, Gwendel! Thank you even more for the critique, though :)

It's textured layering, but only because I didn't think ahead and was just sort of playing around with it for a while. The background is red, and again, because it was the only tube of paint I had a lot of and wouldn't mind using up. =/ But now that you point it out, I totally agree with you that orange would look better with the blue (opposite colors and all, drrrh Mouse Pirate >_<) I went a little crazy with the yellow though, so I think that evens out the colors (primary and all.)

The finished product is sort of "Wheeee~ Psychadelic!" with the coloring as I got tired of painting Klaha. Yup. Critiques still welcome and wanted, but I think I'm done with this one as it it. I'll keep any criticisms in mind for my next piece :). Also, since it doesn't fit in my scanner, these are just zoomed-in parts of the whole painting.

Is it just me, or is our dearest Klaha beginning to look like Spike Speigel in this thing...?

Yessss. Wouldn't have known what Klaha looked like in PoM without your website, by the way :). Heart the Pride of Mind.

Hmmm...well, if I were to give any futher critique, having seen this now as a triptic.....

I really like the way you mixed white into the face of the solo Klaha to represent the receding areas. It does a good job of moving the space back, and yet because you chose white, it ties the first together with the second two wearing whiteface. If you had chose to go with purely natural skin colors, it would have stood out in a bad way. Good job.

As for what you did with the background on the first....hmmm, well, the 3 are visually united with colors and a similar style, but that green area in the bottom right of the first is a bit too green to really fit with the other two. It looks a little off. :? And the brushstrokes with the red in that area kind of create an interesting illusion as if he were being consumed by evil flames. XD It reminds me of the work of the brothers Hildebrandt and their portrayal of Mordor from Middle Earth. Those paintings were practically all different shades of red and green used in contrast to give the feeling of being in a very hot, desolate place.

And yeah, the Pride of Mind picture does look a bit rushed in comparison with the first. ^.^;;; The feeling is so much more placid, and the areas don't seem to have as much depth/contrast to them as the first. Were you doing this all in one sitting, and/or one by one in sequence? It might be good in the future to work on parts all three at once if you ever do another triptic, so that they will mesh with each other a bit better, and in more than one sitting so that you won't feel so rushed to do the last one. ^.^;;;

Ah. Gwendel. My brain just short-circuited when you linked Klaha and Lord of the Rings. o.o Big ringer here. *coughGlorfindel4evacough*.

Anyway. Thank you for noticing the skin tone stuff. That gave me some trouble as I was starting out ^^;

The green on the bottom evens out a big splotch of green on the other side. The scanned pics are really zoomed in =/

I didn't do them all in one sitting, but I was getting tired of painting the same subject... I'm terribly lazy and impatient (not to mention messy *wipes acrylic off of LCD moniter* >_<) I thought about working on a little bit of each one at a time, but I can't seem to think ahead when I'm painting. I just sort of... paint. Yeah.

Anyway, I find myself becoming more and more dissatisified with the lack of composition and thought in my piece, and might do another one instead ^^. Also, it's oddly shaped and I'm not sure how that will work out with shipping and fitting into the fanbook box. 10.5 inches by 21.5 inches. At least now I feel more comfortable painting... I'm more of a mechanical pencil girl :)

Aion - What size stuff do you plan on getting? Will my painting be too big?

The .07 Staedtler mechanical pencil is my god. Nothing gets started without it, except pure CG and only because it's impossible.

I didn't really have a size in mind yet. I was going to wait until I had recieved everyone's mail, so if you want to send that, it's fine. I will work around it ^^

Mouse Pirate: In a way, it's a pity. Your drawings and the painting technique in the solo one are really strong, and dispite my critique, I really like them. I'd hate to see them just tossed aside.

I also have a problem with getting lazy and impatient towards the end of a painting project, sculpting project, whatever. :grin: Which is why my teacher tried to teach me to step back for a bit and go back to working when I was fresh mentally and physically for the task. It really does help, and sometimes you get a new perspective on what you are doing.

Are you working towards an art major of some sort? If you have any other work on line, I'd love to see it, although you might want to PM me, as I suspect this is getting OT. ^.^;;;

hi! *waves* *points to self* me new. ^^

mouse_pirate:: your paintings are very good! your brushstroke technique is impressive :)

so ah.. klaha's ill, neh? that's so sad! :cry: i'm not a massive fan of klaha but that's still so sad. someone as sweet as klaha doesn't deserve to feel this way.

i'd really really like to send something to him (i'm pretty good at knitting.. maybe i'll knit a scarf or two. haha) but euh.. my mom's a little weird when it comes to sending stuff to strangers who aren't famous (yeah, weird, neh? she had no problem when i sent a letter to jennifer aniston and had less of a problem when aniston sent me an autographed pic a few weeks later) LoL. asian moms. what can i say?

is there any way i can find an address where klaha gets his fan stuff? ^^;;
