@Amatsu: You watch too much Colbert Report. :P They were talking about it on there, too: http://youtube.com/watch?v=sqVuDs0voTA What was also not included there is when they showed that there already *is* an interstate that runs from mexico to canada, so it's all really pointless anyway.

Lou Dobbs is also Mr. 'The government is out to get us', which is only true as far as current public politics go. Watch his show more, and you'll see what I mean. ;)

If anything, Bush is out of office soon so anything planned is moot at this point- nothing's going to miraculously spring up over night.

Actually, I don't watch anything on the comedy central channel.

Japan seems like a cool place and it would be fun to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there. And, I'm not too interested in traditions, or anything.

I like America too much. xD

I can't choose. I can't really say I'm addicted to Japan, but I don't think it's any better or worse than any other great place in the world.

We call it pop here, not soda
I chose 9 because it was the closest thing to what I feel.

I DO have a plan to EVENTUALLY teach English there, and I'm very interested in the pop culture, and the history, and customs, and ceremonies, and things. I really want to see a bunch of places, and I think the language is beautiful. That's why I like Japanese music. In my ears, it flows better than English.
But I'm not like OMGZ I LUV JAWPAN LOLOL YAY HERAJUKU LULZ.
*shakes head*

but yeah, I said 9

Well... I like the music, I sometimes watch anime and read some manga, and I'm interested in Japanese pop culture but also history. (that mostly comes from being very interested in chinese culture and history, and then I started to get interested in the Japanese history too because.. it was close x'D I'd like to visit very much, and I am going one year there as an exchange student but I wouldn't like to live there more than that, I think.
But I don't like things mainly because they're Japanese, I happen to like the music style very much but I also listen to other things. The fashion is very interesting and special, and if there was anything like it in any other place I would probably get interested in that instead. As for politics and religion I'm more interested in Chinese, and I think the language is cool but Chinese is cooler xD I voted 6.

None of the above XD

There are things I absolutely love about Japan, things I'm ambivalent about, and things that would make it's sinking into the ocean for all eternity a cause for merriment. Like vis kei.

At the same time I think it is a goal of mine to live there for a few years asap, if only to go to a couple matsuri's with my friends, buy some cool clothes at Marui, improve my Japanese, and walk across Honshu.
I also kind of wish I had a Japanese kid who could learn kanji and participate in school festivals but I don't want a kid so tough noogies to me.
...honestly though....I miss it. There was something about the place (not the people) that felt so much like home....

Voted 11... I was married to a Japanese guy and I'm getting ready to do so again. I could've voted 12 though, because we are absolutely planning to have children.

But that makes it sound like I love it here. I live here because there are some good points. I like my job. I like the public transportation. I like the safety in comparison to similarly populated places back home. I like speaking a foreign language, even though it really pains me not to be able to communicate as well as I'd like.

I've been trying to formulate a good response to this thread and Midori did it for me. I voted 10, though.

None of the above really suit me, I guess I'm sorta like 4.5 ^^

I'm very interested in the politics of the nation as far as foreign policy and regional relations between its neighbours are concerned, I like Japanese women*, and I would possibly like to visit Japan sometime soon for about a month.
While I like a ton of Japanese games companies as well as listening to slew of Japanese artists ranging from the typical pop of Kumi and Ayu to a moderate array of rock artists I have no real love for Manga, Anime or the like and 99.9% of AMV's, Animie's and the like just get on my friggen nerves.

I can safely say that I have no plans in the foreseeable future to live in Japan as I can't speak the language in anywhere near liveable standards and my writing and reading is practically non existent. As well as that I must say that despite a few things I am reasonably happy where I am :D

*Hey! Just being honest :P

I agree with shinzo's last paragraph. Anyway, none of the options really suit me, either. I would say I'm closest to option 3, though. Still, it doesn't suit me enough to actually vote.

I have a huge intrest in Japan. I love a lot of the music that comes from there (so much that I actually don't listen to much American music any more... ::shifty:: ), and I also love a lot of games, manga, and music.

I'm also really interested in the history and culture, and would love to speak Japanese fluently. As it is, my vocabulary is very, very bad. I can't structure my sentances.

As it is, my plans for the future include visiting Japan at least once, possibly as an exchange student, and finishing The Tale of Genji. That book is just way too long. And I keep forgetting about it, then I have to start over...

I'd like to visit Japan and maybe live there for a while, but to move there for good? I don't think so. I could never move to a country which language I don't speak. I am studying the basics of japanese at the moment but I don't think I will ever be fluent in it. Besides, since Finland doesn't have that much population I'm used to space, peace and quiet ;) I would be a cultureshock to move somewhere with billions of people.

I voted two, I like some music, comics and a few things but I'm not that heavily interested in Japan.
