Mana just announced that he and Moi-même-Moitié will be at Sakura-Con. The convention runs from 3/30 to 4/1. The website for the convention is here http://sakuracon.org

btw this is not an April Fools joke. Right now a group handling this is saying there will be a fashion show and tea party. And of course they will have a booth for selling. Mana will be participating in a panel and autograph session.

It is good to see that he is going overseas again. I hope it goes well and that it is incentive to bring Moi dix Mois in the future.

Applications for the fashion show were taken and it is scheduled for Saturday.

Just to add, it is the same booking group who is handling Kaya's appearances in the US. They seem to be handling booking Japanese musicians and fashion houses for conventions in the US since last year.

I guess they couldn't get Mana for GAMEBOI. ::mana::

Mana? At a club? Come on, that's what moms listen to. You might as well ask the DJ to spin up Perry Como or Bing Crosby or something ::ash::

"I MEAN IT ::mana::"
There can be only one.
*cue "Princes of the Universe" by Queen*

Actually that is a standard rule for these tea parties. Here it was for the one they had in 2013 (I think that was the year) That was with Atelier Pierrot.

"Cosplay - This is not a cosplay event. All cosplay ensembles are inappropriate. Examples include but are not limited to:

  • Purposely replicating anime characters and their respective outfits.
  • Purposely replicating brand themed coordinates (such as those in their advertising and print campaigns) in a cosplay-like style or manner.
  • Mana cosplay.
  • Chii ears, Naruto headbands or cosplay wings, etc.
  • Cosplay related props and/or weapons."
****
And now applications are closed. I don't know how many tickets there are but that was two hours. I'm now seeing desperate people pleading to know what Moitie is bringing to the convention because they have no burando.

Naruto headbands
 I really, really hope this rule was instituted in response to a specific incident ::meev::

What does that "brand themed coordinates" rule mean? That you're not allowed to wear Chinese bootleg items?

Yup, and some people make their own versions of brand items. There were magazines that even sold patterns back in the day. It was the brands that okayed those patterns too. Usually those were basic items, like skirts or top, which if you wore with brand items probably would not get noticed. But if someone went with something more fancy it might be noticed. And yes, the cheap Chinese knock-offs. I should add Japan's Body-Line to this since they made certain replica items like a bat bag. But it was smaller than Moitie bat bags and without certain details.

No idea about the Naruto headband but if you saw some of the comments from people desperate to get into this tea party but never wore egl or ega in their lives let alone own anything from Moitie...it makes sense.

^Hey, is that Haruhiko Ash? Whatever happened to him? I often wonder if he's still alive.

Sucks that I just learned about this last weekend, Seattle isn't super far from Vancouver. I'm broke and I also have to get a visa, which is frustrating. I'd rather have the flu than get a US visa.

He moved out to the Inaka and started a wildly successful daikon farm.

<as far as I am aware, no one knows what happened to him>

Muh boiz always breakin' da rules #yolo

Soooo, not that I'm going (too much on my plate) but I'm curious as to the full details of this rule as well.... For some reason I can't shake the thought that maybe an excellent Mana cosplayer may have been mistaken for the real deal, or vise versa?

If I wasn't already in the US, I'd feel the same way right now. Glad I'm getting away from here for a few days.

And on that note, emails have been sent requesting payment for the tea party. And it's amazing the number of people who put in that do not own anything Moitie, and probably not any EGL or EGA.

I'll try to give a break down on the proceedings, if capable. I do have a necklace I'm taking with me in case anyone out there is desperately in need to buy something that would fit. I can be messaged here.

I had messaged Moitie to suggest they bring a lot of jewelry and accessories since people were looking for things to buy. Seems they don't have a lot of items to bring. Understandable since they recently took over and the stocks before then were fairly low. Which is why they are doing with the Wunderwelt side of the company, to have more merchandise.

And no, I am not going to ask what was the reason for the "no Mana cosplay". I'm more wondering if it was MdM cosplay. Which could be a little unsettling at a genteel tea party ::k::

Are you going to share the highlights? XD

If I don't drop from exhaustion, yeah

It is interesting that the con is enforcing a really strict dress code for the masquerade ball and even have photos to show what is acceptable and what isn't. The convention people handling the tea party might have saved themselves and those trying to go a bit of trouble if they posted the same prior to opening up the application form.

People who are into fashion like the lolitas and elegant goths are somewhat familiar with these kinds of tea parties and fashion events and have an idea what outfits are appropriate and what isn't. What happened here is that because it's Mana attending, it attracted more than people who are into this fashion. So I have no idea what is going to happen. At least there are a number of lolitas that will be attending. I hope a few ega also.

They also are not saying where it will take place, unlike the tea party they had a few years ago. Understandable. Some people get a little crazy.

A few people are saying when they applied and when they received their email for payment. Looks like they took in way more applications than they had seats. I think this is going to be a pretty small event. It would take the pressure off since this may be the first tea party event Mana has attended outside of Japan. I don't know if he's ever done one before. He's done meet and greets and the secret meetings.

Y'know I can kinda see this, and now I'm imagining him in pasty-white makeup with his headband, wearing a white tunic and herding sheep in the countryside.

@etherealspirits keep us posted! I'd love to know how it goes. Thumbs up on your business smarts too, hope you can make bank off of your necklace ::meev::

The only halfway solid rumor I heard about Ash is that he got a job as an editor (whatever that means) after dropping out of the music scene, but that was years ago and it was only a random website person's rumor.
Anyway I'll stop derailing the thread now XD
