I figured since this isn't Velvet Eden, Kalmia deserved it's own thread.

Last night, Kalm announced a new EP (4 tracks) to be released sometime in the future and presented a new song, "Body Trade". You can demo it now on his official Soundcloud, seaofcat d(^__^) You can also download it from his Bandcamp site. Lucky you!

He also released a download only EP, "Choose/Palm" (it only cost $3 for the 2 songs), as well as a free download of Silk, with him on vocals. You can get them right here from Bandcamp.

(An interesting note, this site says the song "Silk" is from a promotional cassette tape, "Marionette/Silk". The music to this "Silk" is the same as the Velvet Eden version, but the lyrics have been drastically changed and are sung by Kalm.)

He also said not long ago that people keep asking him for old Kalmia music but he has no plans right now to release or sell them. It looks like he's pretty intent on just moving forward.

He's really nice on Facebook; people who use it should friend him. He uses Social Media correctly

The lyrics aren't the same for Silk though, almost but there's some parts different.
Also, he said to most of us that he didn't want to sell the old demo songs, but in fact he did offer a very limited of people to buy all of his discography for a VERY big amount. I asked him about it and he now said he regret the high price, so now he feels like he can't sell them at all, because it would be unfair to lower the price. ::hora::

I just checked and you're right, the vocal lines are pretty much the same but the lyrics are almost completely different o_O

I kneel before you,
why are you laughing at me?
I feel myself losing you,
and still you ridicule me?

Softly, just like this,
like the moment of birth,
Everything gently
Gives itself unto the silk
Just let me sleep

I'm so cold and worn out
And still you laugh at me?

Softly, just like this,
like the moment of birth,
Everything gently
Gives itself unto the silk
Just let me sleep

Yeah, I heard in the past people were able to buy older songs, but I translated a message for him recently saying he had no current plans to sell or release any older songs. I don't even know how many songs/releases are in the Kalmia discography, but it would be awesome to know more :)

How much did he want? ::meev::

I listened to "Body Trade" and it was all right, but I'm not sure I'd buy the EP.

Oh and yes, I bought the discography in December last year but don't think Kalm asked that much for it, I actually offered it on the first message I sent him. Oh and he didn't offer to sell it to me, I asked him personally. It's probably ridiculous for some/most but I had (and still have) deep respect for his art and I didn't want to offer him something insulting. He didn't release some songs in the mastertapes as well, so the exclusivity made it even more worth it. I wish he didn't feel that way, I think i'll send him a message later this week, it's his material and I don't regret at all paying that price :).

Oh I'm not particularly liking the new song unfortunately.

And gabespf, I disagree with what you just said. Material exclusivity makes things silly, not special! And it makes the people who value that exclusivity snobs. It's the reason ugly stuff like oligarchies and exploitation still exist.

It's too bad he can't sell his stuff anymore. Perhaps he could try to contact the buyers and reimburse them some of the cost. If that's not an option, then I find his decision respectful.

Can someone translate this in japanese please? So it's as clear as possible :

Hello KALM^^

I am active on a japanese music forum and yesterday someone made a post about KALMIA songs not being available because you didn't want to release them because you felt I had payed a high price and you didn't feel it was fair to lower the price. But I just want to tell you : It's completely okay ! I already knew the demotapes were originally 1000 yens, I was aware from the beginning that the price was higher than what usual fans used to pay and it's okay by me ^^ I actually wanted to support you the most that I could. So please if that is the reason you haven't any sold any songs please don't worry. I was actually very interested in doing a remake and cover of your song "In Your Eyes" and I didn't know if I could or not since you asked for exclusivity so I think it would even make me happier if you did sell those songs.

Have a nice day ~

Oh I'm sorry, I think I didn't explain myself properly. When I was talking about exclusivity I was talking about the songs in the KALMIA project that he had never released, even in the old days. What I meant to say is that it made it even more worth it since some songs I could have only acquired directly from him.

But it's probably very contradictory with my old internet posts, because I was a very huge exclusivity snob haha.

The other person that Leila talks about that had the songs as well was very present in my life and because we were around so often she could listen to them as well. As far as I know, except us two, nobody has the KALMIA discography. So I think i'm the only main obstacle, I hope that he reconsiders again ! Some songs are so inspiring to the point that I consider them masterpieces : Mind Dance Take 1, In Your Eyes, Asian Creek, Ceremony, Mary.

Anyways, I hope one day most fans will have the possibility to hear at least one of those. Thalidomide in Bedroom in HQ is amazing as well.

I know Koeism tried to buy them as well often but he didn't have the funds to do so, so he told me KALM never said yes. I think the possibilities of somebody else except me buying them are quite low (since the price was relatively high). But you are right I have no certainty (but I still highly doubt it).

He is actually selling the discography for anyone who wants it. An acquitance of mine told me he was selling it and I have asked, the price still in $300.

I think it is worth for anyone that is a REAL fan of his work, even if it just some mp3 (or wave, I don't know) it is the only way to get it.

He said on his Facebook page that the music isn't for sale and he has no plans to release older tracks ^^;

Kalm wrote:
僕の過去の音源(KALMIA)を個人的に売って欲しいという連絡がちょいちょいありますが、現時点で売る予定はありませんのであしからず。

将来、幾つかの曲はダウンロードで再発するかも知れません(しないかもだけど)。

English: I've had many requests from people who would like me to sell older KALMIA tracks to them personally, but I currently have no plans to sell them.

In the future, some of the tracks may be made available to download (This is still under consideration)
I think it's interesting that very few of the Kalmia tracks I've heard sound like the music he sells commercially with Kaya, Dada, etc...

He composed music for a yoga commercial recently, that was pretty nifty :)

I showed this video to some friends last night and they were commenting on some of the more awkward shots as well ^^;

But we all like the song a lot, and I just minimize the video when I listen anyway. It's not really the kind of music I'd associate with Yoga, but it's an awesome track =D

They looked more like they were dying than doing yoga sometimes...
