I just sang this to myself:
someday my internet will come
someday we'll meet again
and away to his castle we'll go
to be happy forever I know
someday when spring is here
we'll find our love anew
and the birds will sing
our wedding bells will ring
one day
when my internet
comes
throuuuugh
Reshab asked if I'm a professional singer and Simona said I actually have a nice voice. I said I just like to randomly sing XD
Man, voting overseas is a pain in the booty. I'm going to send in a write-in ballot because I haven't received my absentee ballot and I don't even know if they got the request. Anthony is no help because he said he doesn't remember what he did to vote a few weeks ago. OK. At least Ivy, the Girl Who Said She Couldn't Form Words in Front of Richard, helped me out, sent me links and dates, and said she had the same problem and will do a write-in too to be safe. I don't even know anymore, but I'm going to the consulate Monday once I get back from Huzhou and handing my materials in. o.o
I'm off to Huzhou tomorrow. Laura the Concept keeps saying it's a watertown and that's why she's not going. It's not a watertown, it's a city! That's existed for over 2000 years! It was even a city during the Three Kingdoms period and was part of the Wu Kingdom. Everything by the southeast was part of Wu so hopefully I can make my way to Chengdu this year and see Zhugey again in his home turf. I'm excited about Huzhou though because I never would have thought of going there!
(I told Wandering_Fox I forgot Laura the Concept is half 'murican. She was going on today about how maybe socialist countries have a point seeing how our elections are going, not that she'd want to live in any of them.)
I had another great Business Transactions class today and we even went over leveraged buyouts XD It was soooooo exciting. Speaking of which, someone on LinkedIn sent me a very nice message. He's an associate at a Shanghai business law firm, went to the law school I'm at now, and is now getting his LLM at NYU Law. (NYUUU).
He basically said he saw my profile and was delighted to see we had many shared experiences. He has just come to NY so he wants to learn about the city and the legal world there and he thought I’d be the right person to reach out to.
He’d like to treat me to coffee whenever it is convenient for me so I can share some of my insight with him. He also said he would be very grateful for 25 minutes of my time.
I felt as though I was all-knowing and wise. Totally. But when I looked at his profile, I thought I should be learning from HIM, haha. He’s basically doing business law and M&A between the US and China too!
Speaking of which, I got an email about a lecture series with the “leading national business and financial law scholars” and I said, “Where’s Richaaaard” as I scrolled through the faces and names. And there he was! I RSVP’D already XD… even though it’s in April
Anyway, it’s POURING here in Shanghai. A typhoon hit the Philippines and it seems we’re experiencing some of the side-effects. I hope it’s not as bad tomorrow because I don’t know how we’ll explore like that! BUT since it was raining I took the opportunity and had McDonald’s delivery. I played Sid Meier’s Pirates and ate my Big Mac. I get so happy with those things!
The day before I was at the Animation Museum. It is SO AMAZING I NEED TO GO BACK I don't understand how we don't have anything like this in the US! There are several floors and I didn’t even finish one in two hours. It had sections on Chinese, Japanese, United States, Russian, and even Yugoslavian animators. It was super interesting. It also played animation from early animators who were experimenting with things like chalk and the rotoscope.
It took you from the early paintings in Spain in the caves, to the printing press, to comics, to early animation, to now. It also featured several different companies, such as Disney, Warner Bros, etc. And it recreated old Japanese drawings so you were literally inside them. They seriously went all out. They also had real cels and sketches from things like The Little Mermaid and Tom and Jerry. I mean, it was amazing. It also had sketches from new, experimental animation from all over the world. I really loved the recreation of the desk where the Chinese animators, the first ones who were three brothers, drew Princess Iron Fan. I’m just so inspired by these people and how they dedicated themselves to making animation better and better.
