I just sang this to myself:

someday my internet will come
someday we'll meet again
and away to his castle we'll go
to be happy forever I know
someday when spring is here
we'll find our love anew
and the birds will sing
our wedding bells will ring
one day
when my internet
comes
throuuuugh

Reshab asked if I'm a professional singer and Simona said I actually have a nice voice. I said I just like to randomly sing XD

Man, voting overseas is a pain in the booty. I'm going to send in a write-in ballot because I haven't received my absentee ballot and I don't even know if they got the request. Anthony is no help because he said he doesn't remember what he did to vote a few weeks ago. OK. At least Ivy, the Girl Who Said She Couldn't Form Words in Front of Richard, helped me out, sent me links and dates, and said she had the same problem and will do a write-in too to be safe. I don't even know anymore, but I'm going to the consulate Monday once I get back from Huzhou and handing my materials in. o.o

I'm off to Huzhou tomorrow. Laura the Concept keeps saying it's a watertown and that's why she's not going. It's not a watertown, it's a city! That's existed for over 2000 years! It was even a city during the Three Kingdoms period and was part of the Wu Kingdom. Everything by the southeast was part of Wu so hopefully I can make my way to Chengdu this year and see Zhugey again in his home turf. I'm excited about Huzhou though because I never would have thought of going there! :)

(I told Wandering_Fox I forgot Laura the Concept is half 'murican. She was going on today about how maybe socialist countries have a point seeing how our elections are going, not that she'd want to live in any of them.)

I had another great Business Transactions class today and we even went over leveraged buyouts XD It was soooooo exciting. Speaking of which, someone on LinkedIn sent me a very nice message. He's an associate at a Shanghai business law firm, went to the law school I'm at now, and is now getting his LLM at NYU Law. (NYUUU).

He basically said he saw my profile and was delighted to see we had many shared experiences. He has just come to NY so he wants to learn about the city and the legal world there and he thought I’d be the right person to reach out to.
He’d like to treat me to coffee whenever it is convenient for me so I can share some of my insight with him. He also said he would be very grateful for 25 minutes of my time.

I felt as though I was all-knowing and wise. Totally. But when I looked at his profile, I thought I should be learning from HIM, haha. He’s basically doing business law and M&A between the US and China too!

Speaking of which, I got an email about a lecture series with the “leading national business and financial law scholars” and I said, “Where’s Richaaaard” as I scrolled through the faces and names. And there he was! I RSVP’D already XD… even though it’s in April ::batsu::

Anyway, it’s POURING here in Shanghai. A typhoon hit the Philippines and it seems we’re experiencing some of the side-effects. I hope it’s not as bad tomorrow because I don’t know how we’ll explore like that! BUT since it was raining I took the opportunity and had McDonald’s delivery. ::squee:: I played Sid Meier’s Pirates and ate my Big Mac. I get so happy with those things! :D

The day before I was at the Animation Museum. It is SO AMAZING I NEED TO GO BACK ::squee:: I don't understand how we don't have anything like this in the US! There are several floors and I didn’t even finish one in two hours. It had sections on Chinese, Japanese, United States, Russian, and even Yugoslavian animators. It was super interesting. It also played animation from early animators who were experimenting with things like chalk and the rotoscope.

It took you from the early paintings in Spain in the caves, to the printing press, to comics, to early animation, to now. It also featured several different companies, such as Disney, Warner Bros, etc. And it recreated old Japanese drawings so you were literally inside them. They seriously went all out. They also had real cels and sketches from things like The Little Mermaid and Tom and Jerry. I mean, it was amazing. It also had sketches from new, experimental animation from all over the world. I really loved the recreation of the desk where the Chinese animators, the first ones who were three brothers, drew Princess Iron Fan. I’m just so inspired by these people and how they dedicated themselves to making animation better and better. :)

I can't believe Matilda is already 4 years old, oh my God. XD

I got into the International Human Rights clinic! :D I'll be helping sex workers and women in Africa next semester, woohoo! :D

Anyway, I just got back from Anji/Huzhou. I had such a great time!!! :) Anji is a small county that is known for its mountains covered with bamboo forests. Some movies like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon were filmed there!

It was pouring rain. And we actually climbed to the top of a mountain in the pouring rain. At the time we were all, "Why are we doing this?" We also passed the occasional ox. The view was lovely once we got to the top though.

I then bought two wooden turtles made out of bamboo. They were adorable! :D

The hotel we stayed at was really nice and my roommate... She must have some medical condition I have to believe because she smelled awful, like bad ketchup XD And whenever she went into the bathroom she stayed in there for a long time, and if I went in afterwards it would smell just like her. Only in the bathroom though. I really did some amazing acting to show nothing affected me. So it would be like:

A: *goes into bathroom* :)
*in bathroom* AHHHHHH!!!!
A: *leaves bathroom* :)

The next day we went to Nanxun and it was so nice. We walked through gardens, and a villa that was once owned by one of the "Four Elephants." They were the biggest merchants at the time and the villa was built and expanded on for generations. I asked one of our chaperones, Saad, if the man who owned it donated it and he laughed a little and said no. He said when the revolution happened it was repossessed and now it's open to the public. He said sometimes it's good when these things happen.

Now it belongs TO THE PEOPLE!

The villa was really nice and huge and had a huge lotus garden too with rocks from Lake Tai. People say the villa is comparable to the one in Dream of the Red Chamber. The man spent lots of money on collections of books and we went through his personal library, which was a whole building. He even had big collections of Three Kingdoms novels and spent money to have Three Kingdoms (and others) turned into carved wood block prints. I aspire to be him one day. XD THAT'S THE DREAM!

"Ahh yes, this is her personal library. She has numerous editions of Three Kingdoms and other classical Chinese works." XD

The man even had golden characters given to him by Qing dynasty emperors and some emperors even built beautiful archways for him.

Saad took some nice pictures of me there, wow!

I stuck around the library during our free time and I'm so glad I did. I went to where a crowd was and there was a stand where you could buy a wood block print for only 20 RMB. Less than $4.

I stood around and they told me one of the ones for sale was from Dream of the Red Chamber. I asked who was in the picture, because I read the book and I didn't recognize the lady, and I managed to say this in Mandarin! They said it was Yuanyang. OMG after she rejects a marriage proposal from an evil dude she kills herself. I forgot about her.

So they said I could actually print it out MYSELF, like, DO IT MYSELF, and I said, "ME?!?"

I put on the apron and they walked me through it. OMG. It was magical! I'm so glad some guy recorded it too! XD

We had another great Chinese lunch, where I tried new stuffs, and we went back home. The hooligans and I hung out at the cafe and played cards. It was a nice time and Reshab and Theo said they can teach me poker! XD

Now I've been hanging out at home and finally we have had a sunny day. I'm off to get some Peruvian food now~ ^^

Halloween! Whatchall doing for it?

Putting up with the hordes of people who decry it as American and un-Australian, as they watch their American TV shows and movies, wear their American clothing brands and listen to American popular music...

that sounds like a really dumb way to ruin fun. You have my sympathies.

I'm going to profit from it to wear gothic lolita friday-monday :)
We'll also do a house party Saturday, and then find somewhere in Paris for the eve I think.
Someone mentioned doing a mushroom gathering hike in costume but...no....

Welp, looks like she's already as good as her uncle at everything but stick figures.
Ya pretty much ::batsu::

@sailorKa is going to be in town for Halloween and we're probably doing precisely nothing festive XD I refuse to let him spend $40 on some ripoff New York haunted house, soooo.

Lucky, we're starting to into the hotter season here, I picked my niece up from high school yesterday and everyone was flummoxed that I was wearing all black.

Four people were killed on a ride at one of our biggest theme parks yesterday, it is the biggest thing to have happened here, I was even considering going there the other day too. I wonder if they'll reopen the ride or close it for good, it is one of the most visible rides at the theme park.

Oh, about this: you should go into the forbidden part of the catacombs ::meev:: It's probably full of insufferable Jack Skellington cosplayers and lame metalheads from whatever the French equivalent of Hot Topic is XD

I don't know how they celebrate Halloween in China, but they are selling a lot of Halloween-related items XD They even had a new section for it in my regular Cute Store. I think they're more catering to foreigners who are here, but maybe they actually do a little something. I would've forgotten about it had someone not mentioned it though XD

I volunteered to look up alumni contact info for my journal and I find myself not wanting to be any of these people XD What amuse me though are the NYTimes wedding announcements. They seem so bland when you read them XD They're mostly like "the groom went to this school and has this job" "the groom is a son of so and so who has this job" "the bride graduated from this school and has this job" "they met at blablabla." It's very strange to me that most of it is where they went to school and their jobs. XD

Anyway, I walked into class yesterday and my classmates went, "You're famous!" and "Look at youuuuuuu!"

I didn't know what they were talking about so I asked what XD Kumari said I was on the school's website and she forwarded me the link:

ZOMG~

I can't believe they used that, "I'm giving a speech to my people" photo XD

Gan said I should start asking for payment for promoting the program LOL, now that more people will want to join because of me XD Kumari said that I'm not in just one picture, BUT FOUR! XD

They're total nerds, but it was titillating. I felt so nerdy. I walked home and down the street I passed by the hooligans and they each said, "Hi!" and I felt nerdy.

Today I went to the special needs place and I had fun. I handled the rice and served people and the cook said next time he'll teach me his cooking ways. I even met a German girl, Natalia, who was very nice and fun. She happens to live in the same dorm I lived in 3 years ago and she asked me what floor I lived on and I think it was 4.
I also got a grey Armani jacket to add to my collection and they gave me a discount because they are nerds. I don't normally wear grey, but I thought I'd experiment! I actually think this is my first grey piece and that I can totally match with Richard now because he has so many grey things! He's going to Cuba soon to give a presentation and discuss business stuffs there and I'm so proud~ ^^

I also bought two hand-made dragonflies. One had the colors of the US and the other had the colors of China and I said they'll be BFFs.

As I was sweeping the floors though I wondered how the broom could be imagined as someone you love so that you find you're dancing to the tune. Really, I was wondering about this and analyzing the motions.

One of the helpers played, "Colors of the Wind" and I couldn't resist singing it and he even played it again XD Natalia said he must've liked my singing! Afterwards I went to West Nanjing Road to the American Citizens Services building and I felt so MURICAN! I voted and I'm nervous that maybe I made a mistake, haha. Maybe there is a typo or something I didn't do right so my vote won't count. I'm scared!

After that I walked to the Urban Planning Museum and it was pouring. POURING. I had a student discount though so it was cheaper than cheap to go inside and I went to the top floor cafe and ate some chips while looking over Shanghai. I bought an old 1927 map of Shanghai and some postcards with old photos of Shanghai that I really liked.

The rain has been non-stop today and I was pleasantly surprised upon arrival to find my newly cleaned up room including a paper on my desk asking if I'd like my sheets changed. Ahhhh~ ::batsu::

^ I wouldn't be surprised since it's a donation XD

I successfully haggled a new Zhuge Liang opera figure. He's adorable.

I went to NYU for a Chinese poetry event, which was actually really nice. One poet was Chinese and the other Korean and they read their poetry and the English translations were also read out loud. There was a Q&A session and I even asked a question. I was surprised with the Korean poet because I really liked his poetry and I'm not a big fan of poetry unless it's ancient Chinese.
(I also liked how the chairs were purple, there was a giant NYU logo on the podium, and the clock was purple with a NYU logo. I love NYU.)
Afterwards I went to the Chinese one and asked if he had a website because of the photography they showed on the powerpoint. I said I really liked his photography. He said no, but that he has WeChat and can add me on there. He scanned my code and I said thank you and flew away.
Then I met this coordinator lady, I think she's part of NYU's administration, and she was SO happy to hear I was an alumni. You would've thought I was an alumni from 20 years ago and had dropped in just for this from the way she acted. I hope I can make it to the next events!

I was at the elevator and this girl came in with me and I said I have the Chinese poet on WeChat! XD I said, "I don't know what to say!" I was feeling so silly and she patted my arm and said, "Easy, girl!" I just laughed so hard at that because I felt as though I were actually back at NYU, wondering what to text and laughing with a friend. :)

I then said, "HE SENT ME A SMILEY!!!" She said to send one back, but I needed to pause and take deep breaths. WHY WAS THIS SO WEIRD. I guess I don't usually have interesting guest speakers on a messaging service.

We got off the elevator and Christina is actually a teacher and teaches Mandarin to foreign students. I said, "I feel like I need to act more serious with you now." She said don't worry, and she's only a several years older than me XD She's from Shandong, where Confucius came from, and said things are very traditional in her small hometown there. She left because she knew what her life would've been like had she stayed. (I said I can relate to this in a way.) Her parents also think she should be married with kids by now and that she's too old now. I had such a pleasant talk with her. We talked about the poetry we heard and how the area we were in at the moment used to be all farmland 6 years ago.

Her subway card wasn't working so I waited for her to fix it and we got on the subway. She showed me all sorts of cool apps to learn Mandarin and to order private cars (cheaper than taxis!) and even said she can help me order from Taobao during the 11/11 online sale. She said she's going to Suzhou this weekend and I said:

"Me too"
"Oh that's so nice!"
"with [Chinese poet]"
"OMG"

She said she used to love A Dream of Red Mansions (or Chamber). She even thought she was obsessed with it because she loved it that much since she was little. But when she turned 26 for some reason she didn't love it anymore. I said, "It misses you" and she said I was too cute. I told her, "It forgives you" and she died XD And, "It's waiting for you to come back." She can't believe I love Zhugey and that I had a Zhugey figure in my bag right then, haha.
She preferred the 1990s TV series of Three Kingdoms and I said me too. She said the actor who portrayed Zhugey in the 1990s version always played heroes and presidents and leaders and I said that's perfect. I always thought that actor was super Zhugey-like and drool-worthy. The 2010s Zhugey actor was such a wet, limp noodle in comparison.

In the end the poet saw my photography and liked how I expressed myself with the lens and invited me to the M50 art district to check out his exhibition there. This is good because not only do I like his things, but I wanted to go back there because there were some ruins and a side-of-the-road antique shop next door I wanted to check out. :)

Now to sleep for early morning class :( But I'm off to Suzhou with Vincy on Saturday, WOO! Maybe I'll finally be able to go to Disney on Sunday. HERE'S HOPING~

Actually, they have catacomb police who will prolly be on high alert for halloween.
If you're with a guide, who they know respect the catacombs, then they'll let you off.
But if they don't know you then the (usually rightly) assume you're going to litter and break stuff, and they give you a fine and a little black mark on your record....so no thanks.
Not until I'm citizen lol

So I see my assessment of the usual crowd is more or less right at least ::meev::
