I can't remember if I already asked this here before, but the poll on switching to bidets/handkerchiefs has me wondering: would you be willing to switch to menstrual cups or reuseable menstrual pads (i'm not kidding, they really sell them) ::weepy::

Personally I have tried the Instead Softcup (a disposable menstrual cup) but it doesnt fit me 100% - it still works but i dont think i'd be able to use it during sex like the manufacturer says ::meev:: (however i gave some to my friend who is an escort and she says they work GREAT lol)
I also tried the divacup, but it didn't fit. i later discovered divacup is longer than the average brand in shape, so I may look into Meluna or something...although i liked the disposable aspect of Instead ::meev::

but anyway, do you feel bad enough about the millions of tampons and pads being added to landfills to use a reuseable product? ::kisaki::

I used the diva cup once because I'd had surgery and couldn't use tampons and I found it really, really gross. And I don't use pads (disposable or otherwise) because they're dirty. So, hell naw on both.

As a male I have no meaningful opinion, however I'm intrigued by this "cup" ::meev::

If it really stays in place and feels comfortable then it seems like it would be an improvement over tampons/pads. And of course, whether you use that or pads, reusable is almost guaranteed to be more environmentally-friendly.

But yeah, I really don't know enough of the ins-and-outs (pun not intended) of menstrual hygiene to have a meaningful opinion on this one.

On my other forum, people would always post tons of dumb polls like "what kind of underwear do you wear?", "when did you lose your virginity?" or "peanut butter: crunchy or creamy?"

I miss it.

Edit: actually, we've had lots of dumb polls like that here too.

I have NEVER heard about this cup thingie, I thought us lady folk just had to choose between pads and tampons! And it doesn't help that my mental image is imagining this 'cup' to look like a jock strap. ::weepy:: I think I'll just stick with pads.

I personally wouldn't dream of using such devices. Sounds disgusting and non-hygienic to me.

As someone who witnessed the last days of reusable pads, when there was no other choice for women, I think reintroducing reusable devices on the pretext that they're eco-friendly is a huge step backwards, and somehow an insult to women, who have enough trouble with their physiology as it is. Same with reusable nappies. Use them if you want to, but don't enforce them upon others.

I can understand why women in poor countries would use it though (saves money), but I can't imagine it being very hygienic unless you can clean it REALLY well.

I mean, I think we all know how pads look like after being used and to have a reusable one...? Ew. I definitely wouldn't want to stick that in with my clothes in the washing machine.

As for the diva cup I said no since I can't trust myself with thoroughly washing it everyday and boiling it (it says to do that on the diva cup website). I don't like insertion-type things anyway.

@Chouko: if you looked up the cup then you see that it's a little thing you put inside yourself.

here's a review on Amazon just to add an opinion XD:

I started researching cloth diapers when I was pregnant because I wanted an alternative to disposables. It never occured to me that I was using "disposables" myself. At first I thought it sounded kind of "yucky", but after consideration, it made a lot of sense and I gave it a shot. These work beautifully and leak A LOT less! You just snap them around the panty, and change as needed. (They have special bags for purchase if you need to change them while you are out.) It is not hard to clean them, and my body actually feels better than when using disposables! I started with one box of three, which has three covers, and six liners. With that few, you have to do laundry quite often, so I have ordered more. If cloth diapers make sense to you, give these a shot. You may be surprised how much you like them.

The cup thing is actually very hygienic (I used a disposable brand). I just thought it was gross because you have to dump a cupful of blood into the toilet at the end of the day and I have a blood phobia.

The reusable pads are gross but pads in general are disgusting. Why you would chose to essentially walk around in a dirty diaper is beyond me.

cups look like this:
https://encrypted-tbn1.google.com/image ... yvIcMdOrAA
these ones sit low, just above the opening. they form an air tight seal and COLLECT (rather than "plug up" possibly shove fluid back through the cervix, cause TSS etc) the downside is they require crazy origami to use

Instead Softcup looks like this:
https://encrypted-tbn3.google.com/image ... r6KL2gTVtQ
this one forms a seal directly around the cervix, with the bag part collecting fluid. it is almost identical to a cervical cap and can be worn during sex. these are disposable (though they now make semi "reuseable" ones that are meant to be used for one entire cycle but no more than that)

another option i didnt list was menstrual sponges (im not kidding)
https://encrypted-tbn0.google.com/image ... Io-Ul4PaCw
i didn't list them because they are a stupider version of tampons ::meev::

I just want to say that lady's hand in that picture looks really weird. I mean, it just looks so weird. What is that bump below her thumb?? And that circular thing on her thumb... The fingers just look weird.
I even made the same pose with my hand and it didn't look like that. *stare*

But yeah, never heard of menstrual sponges lol XD

The menstrual sponges look exactly like the ones you can use for washing your baby!

How on earth can you clean them thoroughly? They never seemed quite hygienic to me, even in their common use!

And I do agree that that hand looks weird. Looking more closely, I thought it must be a combination of several shots clumsily put together.

Quick bit of trivia but the last that I heard, they had discontinued the sponge because women would forget that they had one in and would end up getting toxic-shock syndrome because they'd have that thing inside them festering.
