But those Hottopic japanophile goths would love it. XD;

I don't think so. Most would be like "LOLZ ITS JAPANESE, I DUN LIKE THINGS I CAN'T UNDERSTAND". And that'd probably be of the end of it. People have a hard time getting over language barriers and totally androgynous bands. It'd never catch on any bigger than an "underground" thing.. probably.

I know that's all they'd do around my area. The mallgoths in my neighborhood are way to lazy to get involved in anything they can't redily understand. :P

'LAZY' is the perfect word for it, no doubt.

Sounds like they were making excuses because you were being the hipster-indie-know-it-all and turned knowing about bands into a competition.

o_O Not really. I asked about D'espairsRay because they're pretty popular and I wanted to know their opinion- you'd be surprised how big the spectrum of opinion is on them. I asked about Onmyouza because one girl was talking about female jrockers, so I asked if she liked Onmyouza or if she was just a Shina Ringo fan. And as for the Buck-Tick... come on, it's Buck-Tick. They're famous.

It's not as if I was challenging them to know The Piass or Joker or anything like that. I was just glad to find other jrock fans- god knows MN needs them. I don't see why I'm a hipster-indie-know-it-all when I was mentioning popular bands because I was bored of talking about DeG and Gackt.

That makes more sense; sorry.

Well, look at it from the other side too: I really, really like L'arc and Gackt and Utada and m-flo and Chemistry; undoubtedly poppy stuff. I don't like talking about j-music --with hardly anyone-- because it becomes waaaay too much of a hipster thing. There's a lot of derision toward these sort of musicians because they're not yeargleblargledeathzetsubou.

On the OTHER other hand... you've also got people whose knowledge of Japanese music extends to Ayu and that's it, and will say 'yeah, I listen to anything', with that air of culture, when he's kidding himself because it's the same Top 40 shit you hear everywhere except not in English. Hoo-ee! :-P (Note: NOT A KNOCK ON AYU, AYU-LOVERS. :-*)

'es all good. :) And besides... never said I didn't like the poppy stuff. Gackt and L'arc have their place. Its only 3eet dorks that say they're all hardcore... you know that they all started at the same place as the rest of us- with the 'Top 40.'

And some people stay there and that's okay too. :)
...although the guy I lived with for 3 years... bought everything Rolling Stone and MTV told him to. I sound like an angsty teen saying that, but it is no exaggeration. It wasn't even like he pretended to have tastes indepedent of industry. :(

Rolling Stone... uggh. Even when I was a slave to the media (which I admit I was and damn if it wasn't fun) I didn't read that. I once upon a time was an MTVer, though that stopped when MTV began to equal BET for white people. All that gangsta stuff... grr.

Cool thing though- just today, some freshman Curtis kid came up to me and said,
"Are you the weird girl into jrock?"
"Yeah. Whatcha want?"
"Will you burn me a cd? I'll pay you two dollars."
"Do you know who you want on it?"
"I have no idea. Give me the basics."

... so I'm making cash off of being the novelty weirdo senior. It's fun. At this rate, I might be able to go see a Mana live after all.

Dude, simple fact is that most J-rock fangirls say they know EVERYTHING about J-rock, but when asked about the other bands.. they can't back it up.
I hate that! D: These days I just assume that when someone tells me "I like Jrock too!" it means they listen to anime soundtracks.

Even their Deg and Malice Mizer knowledge ends at post-VULGAR Deg (for mallgoths) or pre-MACABRE Deg (for otakus)and merveilles/major Gackt era MM. Tetsu, what? Klaha who? Toshiya isn't pretty anymore/wtf, they used to dress like girls? GHEY.

:|

It wouldn't make me so depressed if they weren't so completely averted to even sampling other lesser known bands.

However, navate, I'M averse to sampling a lot of new bands because, let's be frank; there's a lot of utter shit. My tastes, therefore, meander from time to time; now I'm in a proggy-metally mood because I heard one too many cookie-cutter VK band (there have been crap vk bands since the genre's inception, folks, so let's stop kidding ourselves about 'vintage'), although I'm sure that once I get bored with that's I'll move on to something else, maybe even Japanese music again.

Oh, toally, Elec m'dear. But there are quite a few rather good newer/more obscure bands (bands that I can garuntee people who listen to Deg, for instance, would very much enjoy). As well as a lot of good bands that are obscure outside of Japan... Buck-tick, Kuroyume, Luna Sea, X... those are "lesser known" apparently. :P But it's all anime soundtracks to them, I guess.

 I get that too, except it's more like::

"Are you the weird girl into jrock?"
"Yeah."
"Like...yugio?"
" :| ....no."
someone at the other end of the room "They all look like girls!!! AHAHAAAA!!!"
" "
"They're GAY??"

:P Those are pretty much the conversations I run into in a nut-shell.

I get those too.

"Oh hey, that's a hot chick on your binder."
"Umm... that's a man."
"What the fuck! He's a gay tranny!"
"...You're an idiot."
"At least I don't like gay crossdressers!"

And you should have seen the looks on my teacher's face when my friend and I got caught watching Malice Mizer lives in computer class. It was priceless.

We're just evil.... I guess we're not helping things by scaring people, but it's fun! I once sent DeG's OBSCURE Pv (Uncensored Version) to my friend Tyler and he got scared. He told me that I was scary and that he was afraid do to bed afterwards! The next day he told me I was a perverted pyscho who needed help- and then proceeded to babble about it all day. Bad publicity, but publicity nonetheless. Half of my grade wants to see the video now.

XD Schedule a showing! If I had that many people interested, I'd make some sort of show and charge for it to raise money for a cd or something.

Why is that a good thing? I'd want to share videos and stuff if I thought people would appreciate it, but never if people only wanted to see for the "laugh/be revolted by weird japanese stuff" value.

I dunno. I guess I don't understand why you'd want to encourage misinterpertation like that. People should want to listen to it because they think it's good, not because it has foreign shock value.
