I'm writting a paper about Visual kei, in general. its history, attributes, etc etc... Heres the biiiiggg problem: I'm having a very very hard time finding good sources I can use. I can't use wiki, or forums. I need articles. I need stuff like, the origin of the term, interviews with bands with questions about visual kei, reviews of these visuals from people in japan, and overseas, anything and everything about visual kei.

I'm starting this thread for my paper, but I also think it would be nice to compile a lot of stuff about visual kei into one thread.

please, if you have links, post them! anything helps! this paper is due soon.

anyways, if this thread is something mods think i should ask in the random thread, please lock it.

here's my [first] contribution. It hasnt helped me much with my paper, but it has some stuff about visual kei.

You're not clever. I'm not stupid. I've been trying google for some time. I mostly get forum posts, wiki pages, and obviously bad sources. :|

Here's an article on Gothic Lolita. It briefly mentions Mana. If the page won't let you in, I'll give you the password. It's from my school's research database thingy.

Um... "Jrock Inc" or something? :-/

There is hardly any serious scholarship on this stuff and I doubt that there will be even in its home country for several more years. It's a little disappointing.

A quick glance at Amazon.jp yields these two books, although to what extent they're useful is something I've obviously yet to discover (I might snag them both out of curiosity though):

watashi mo "visual kei" datta koro.

Visual Kei no jidai: Rock, kesshou, Gender

I know you can't read Japanese or anything so I realize how useless this is to you.

But really I think you've overshot the project. If it were me I'd ask my teacher if they'd let me choose another topic, with more sources.

Either that, or narrow it down. Pick one band if you really want to write a paper on something related to visual kei. Since you're here at scape, of course I'd suggest Malice Mizer- you could also use MM to show later projects, such as Gackt or Moi dix mois, or things Kozi's done, ect.

Personally, I agree with elec. There's nothing set in stone about VK, and any books that *are* written are generally really misinformed and badly reported facts. You should probably pick a new topic, or, if you insist, narrow it down.

Good luck none the less. :)

I'm going to throw in my agreement with the previous posters here. It'll be impossible for you to find anything approaching a legitimate English-language source. Speaking as someone running a website about a few VK bands, I feel qualified to say it's really hard to even find accurate info (in any language) about one band and what it did, let alone about VK in general. People can't even agree on exactly what does and doesn't fall under the label.

EDIT to Camuflagem: answers.com is just a mirror of Wikipedia so that's no good for Amatsu's purposes.

It's becoming clear that this paper isn't gonna work unless I bullshit my way through it, which I'd rather not... hmm.

The only guidelines my paper have to go by is that it has to be related to any asian culture, pop culture or otherwise. xD

its so broad I just picked the first thing that came to mind. ::kisaki::

::shifty:: maybe I should have just posted this in the random thread. ::hora::
