Their sound is so dramatically different there are people who hate their old and like their new stuff, and people who like the old and hate the new...and both call themselves Dir en grey fans. With how they feel right now, and how people are reacting.. it would have been a gooooood idea.
OK, I know shit about Nirvana but I heard someone say this and I was reminded.
With Smells like Teens Spirit, Nirvana became a great hit and lots of "grunge fans" were popping up, so what Cobain did to erase them was make an album only really grungy people would dig. And many didnt. And that's that.
Now, whether this is true or not, I don't care. My point is that maybe Dir en grey are trying to go as far and as quickly as possible from what their old music and the fanbase around it(VK fangirls & highschoolers) was.
I haven't heard the new single but really, the talk is enough to make you roll your eyes in frustration.
When a band changes so much, they're bound to be eyed in a questioning manner by old fans.
I guess this is kinda like Tetsu fans going " " at Gackt and Gackt fans going " " at Klaha. ...And Klaha/Gackt fans going " " at Tetsu. D:
If you're used to expecting something from a band, its only natural you feel out of place when they go around experimenting.
Sometimes this works, like with L'Arc~en~Ciel & BUCK-TICK and sometimes you have controversies and debates like right now with Dir en grey.
Hell, if METRONOME started doing acoustic guitar ballads with lyrics about the countryside, I know "I" would be first one rasing a few eyebrows. XD
I realized I dont make sense. orz
