I think I've fallen in love with the way this stuff sounds....

then I actually read up on this act and I'm not so sure anymore. She sounds kind of creepy but I totally dig the whole reason she makes music. You know, the "I make music for myself" kind of deal. The whole anti-"selling out" notion.

If you like Lacrimosa type of music, I suggest you check this out. But it's a little more experimental kind of gothic/darkwave outfit. Though some of it is fairly straightforward.

This "girl" looks creepy. I dig it.

There's no telling if this is the real thing, but you can check out some of her music here

Errr....Anna-Varney is no girl...but you'll have to read a few interviews to understand his/her point of view

Anyway, I love his/her music, it's just...creepy but great. And all the weird things Anna-Varney does with his/her voice...

i've been quite a big sopor fan for some years now, and i find anna-varney an interesting person too. i used to have a pic of him in my avatar here :p. there are a lot of rumours and speculations about anna-varney/sopor aeternus, so take everything with a grain of salt. it usually takes a while before they release something new, and it's not very cheap either, but certainly worth the money and the waiting :).

official site:
http://www.soporaeternus.de

fansite and message board:
http://www.sopor-aeternus.de/frame.html (the site is in german mostly, but there are some english interviews and by far not everyone on the message board speaks german either

i would be very surprised if sopor had a myspace site, so i guess that one isn't official :P[/url]

I like him/her too.

I first heard about him/her through a friend of mine, and I listend and (s)he impressed me very much! The first song I heard was a rendition of and Edgar Allan Poe poem, it was called "Innocence of Devils"

Good stuff!

That's a really good song, but for some reason, there was a time when I had to listen to "Hades Pluton" every day ::shifty:: ...I like that song...a lot

people who like sopor aeternus should perhaps check out devil doll as well, mr. doctor can do a lot of different voices. the music is a mix of classical with some metal here and there. not goth metal stuff, it's different and much better imo :P. it has this atmosphere of an old black and white horror movie, i really like that. their cd's are hard to get though... i feel lucky that i have 5 official devil doll cd's. btw, devil doll have also used some texts from edgar allan poe in their music.

I've listened to Devil Doll a few times, and at one point It was quite chilling! I don't remember which track it was, but it was nervous!

i don't remember what sopor song i heard first. funny, i got introduced to both sopor aeternus and malice mizer at the same time on a message board. but i kind of forgot about malice mizer, because i thought (and still think) that sopor was much better.. a few weeks later i bought dead lovers sarabande face 1. and now i have all albums, including some older versions that are sold out now:P

haha, well, since the only devil doll album that has sepparate tracks is "dies irae" it was probably from that album. i found part 12 scary when i heard it the first time, with headphones on :P
"eliogabalus" has sepparate tracks too, but only 2.

The Sacrilege of Fatal Arms is my favorite Devil Doll Album.Thank you very much, Eres for that wonderful Info you gave me once. :D

And for Sopor Aeternus:
I like the Music very much.Especially the last two Albums, which were a lot more dynamic and the use of Synths increased.

The main point of this thread, sadly, doesn't interest me in the slightest, but I have to say that "eliogabalus" is my one of my favorite Roman emperors.

She's male, but wants to be known as female I suppose. She refuses to have a sex change because she feels that won't really change what she feels on the inside anyway (or something like that). At least, I read that in an interview a while back.

Oh and I love Sopor Aeternus' music and I will try to check out Devil Doll as well. ^^

the devil doll song/album is really nice too. from all devil doll songs that one probably has the least metal influence. btw, i think devil doll is one of the first bands to combine metal and classical music.

Radical Dreamer - you're welcome :)

anna-varney feels both male and female, which is also a reason why he didn't have an operation, and why many people call him "(s)he".

I love Sopor's music and I feel anyone who really loved Malice Mizer at their most gothic would fall in love with songs like "The Virgin Queen". But some of his songs are definitely not nearly as good. Very depressing music the majority of the time though.
