I can't load the videos, but it might be tapping?

I'm off to see Bianca del Rio live tonight, which should be fun!

WOOOOOO!

Judging from what China normally does, I think the government will either renew the law or renew the law with some changes. It could have easily done whatever it wanted with Hong Kong, but it doesn't want to upset social stability so I don't think it'll go for any radical changes. This is similar to how they're dealing with land rights in general, they're inching their way to full ownership through longer and longer lease periods or just renewals of the leases and now are going a bit further with strengthening rural land rights, but I doubt they'd ever do a full-on private ownership thing unless the government itself changes.
He also made silly jokes about the letters, like saying the whole thing sounded like a fortune cookie.
We then had a long discussion about generalizations made on nationality/ethnicity.
Yeah I bet ::meev::
LOL, he jokes around (I do too and I'm pretty awful), but I don't know why I'm continually surprised at how good he actually is XD But I still like to think of him as a John Smith though, even though most of his "outrageous" comments are done because he likes to see me get all "upset" and "OMG!!!!" XD

We had talked about a party he went to a couple of years ago and I think it was mostly faculty at the party. He said that the professors were talking about nannies and said they choose Filipino nannies over Caribbean nannies because Filipino nannies are more hard working and not lazy and do more hours, in comparison to the Caribbean nannies.

Ugh, I hate generalizations like that. (And what about Latina nannies? WHERE ARE THEY?) Richard said that they retorted with a, "But my children's lives are on the line!" He felt disappointed because they espouse their values until it inconveniences them.

BUT MY BABIES!!!111

I said that I really disliked generalizations like that. "Caribbean nannies are lazy" and that Filipino nannies are SO GREAT. XD It interested me because it's not the typical discrimination situation, but generalizing negatively based on home country. If I had to choose a nanny I'd really have to see who they are on an individual basis and do my research. And have a camera system installed!

I got another internship offer that I had to decline. I feel bad declining because they're all (except Incredulous Lady) such nice people. They're all SO nice. I even felt bad declining the Corrections lady because she was happy that I'm making the best decisions for myself and she said to look for any postings whether internships or full time from them if I want anything. SHE'S SO NICE GOD. THEY'RE ALL SUCH NICE PEOPLE XD

Hey I know Chinese law too!

Like for example, say there's some guy is going around stealing people's cell phones. He takes my friends' cell phones.
But it turns out he's actually a friend of a friend, so he gives MY friends back all their cell phones.
In that case he's not a criminal and there's no need for police involvement.
He can also probably kick a few puppies to death on the way back home from returning the phones because animal rights don't exist over there.

...in all seriousness, I find that terrible. Even Hitler introduced animal cruelty laws to Germany.
But the strange part is that most educated Chinese people who will have the power in future generations have no idea of the kinds of animal cruelty that occur in their country.
When I told my Chinese friends about some of the incidents and ways of "preparing" animals they were shocked.

This site..these stories. They're so quirky. I usually don't like these kinds of internet short stories but gosh.
The "All Thumbs" one is the best.

Hey, that actually happened here in NY to my friends ::meev:: I don't know if anyone remembers how everyone suffered because the thief at the club was attracted to me and I felt awful about it after he stole my friends' cellphones. But then he returned them because they were friends of a friend and no one called the police to turn him in afterwards.
Not sure if you were making a joke or not because you wrote out the exact same situation XD

My mom is going to Turkey and she's staying in a former Ottoman palace. It's so beautiful. GOD. I WANT TO GO TOO!!!

Too bad Jews, gays, gipsies, disabled people, and all opponents to National Socialism were not even considered animals.

I'm half Jewish and half Polish and I've been to the Polish camps themselves so I'm aware. That's not quite the point.
I actually think it's kind of a shame that every time someone mentions Hitler, good or bad, the immediate response is to call up the holocast and turn the direction of the discussion towards that.
I don't think there's a single person in North America or Europe who doesn't know about it in detail.
But there's so much more that happened during the time from the end of WWI to WWII that's interesting to look at.

They've got humongo racism issues as well over in China though.
See below:

Chances are (and I'm serious here) if someone murdered a foreign resident in mainland China, the government or police would first try to simply bury them and pretend it didn't happen/they had no idea...
Although to be fair, they've already done that with their own citizens.

Best comment though is that "if they're gonna turn him into an Asian guy, he should at least be an ok looking asian guy"
Cause the original black actor is not bad looking at all.

Hm today my co-worker threw sweets at me.... ::meev::

I like sweets, but I prefer them to be given to me like normal people do. ::hora::

I saw my parents for the first time in awhile the other day, they'd always been hassling me to shave my beard since I first started growing it so I was expecting a pretty big reaction when they saw me.

Turns out it took them awhile to notice. :P

Went to Universal Citywalk yesterday and saw like 5 separate Quinceañera parties walking around. ::meev::
The last thing I'd want to do in Hollywood is walk around in a giant dress in the summer. I don't know why people put themselves through that. Like, anywhere but there.

Also there was a guy on the subway who looked dead but I checked the news and didn't see any incident reports so I dunno...
It was probably the worst subway ride I've ever been on though. Got hit up by the crappy "urban dance crew", candy sellers, tube-sock (?) sellers, and homeless lady sharing the truth about Jesus with more profanity than a Bob Saget stand-up routine.

An old lady belched on me today while I was at the shops, I really needed a shower after that...

I didn't know they had that stuff in LA too... the tube socks are new to me though ::meev::

Yeah, pretty foul. Another woman decided to give my shoulder a fair old head-butt a few weeks ago too.

Not to mention last week an old Indian lady wheels her trolley up to me, jams a finger in my face and starts demanding I give her directions to Target.

Actually, on that topic I've been wondering a lot about foreigners lately, specifically their obliviousness to every-day things. For example, I can understand someone mixing their currency up, not knowing how to operate a ticket machine or use a traffic crossing. What I don't understand is why I'm constantly seeing tourists:

  • Running straight into traffic.
Not understanding that a store is closed.

The other day I decided to make an early morning trip to the post office to send some things off, the post office opens a bit earlier than everything in the are and I saw an Asian lady trying her hardest to pry the doors of the convenience store open.

A while ago I saw a middle-eastern family try and force their way through a security screen on a store, it was around 6pm at this time too and nearly everything bar the grocer was shut in the complex too...

The best one I saw was a couple of Chinese tourists furiously trying to rip open an kiosk, ignoring the attendant's protests of 'we're closed!'.

It leaves me flummoxed, do stores not close in some countries? Is it a perfectly reasonable action to try to force entry?

It's because she liiiiikes you ::meev::

If she does that to me, because she likes me, I don't want to know what she does when she does not like somebody. ::erm::

Hm not sure what to expect next. Maybe I just try and hide next weekend.

My colleague threw a tissue box at me once. We became best friends.

Sometimes it works :)

The weirdest thing I see tourists doing around here is taking photos of themselves in front of the Abercrombie and Fitch store at the mall. Like "Went to America and bought overpriced jeans, woo!".

But I guess if I visited Japan the locals would be snickering behind my back while I took photos of all the vending machines so it goes both ways. ::meev::

They do that here too! Well, we don't have Abercrombie and Fitch here at least, but I always see them posing for group shops in front of the Gucci, Prada etc. stores in the city, they even take shots in front of the more affordable clothing stores too.

Actually there was a funny incident a few months ago when a woman in a burqa was caught shop lifting, the centre security pursued her and as she was making her getaway items were tumbling out of her burqa, I heard it was quite a cartoonish scene.

I used to work close to the Pike Place Market in Downtown Seattle (a major tourist spot because it has the 1st Starbucks) and I had to pass in front of it every day on the way to work... I used to be kind and wait for the tourists to take their pictures before I walked in front of it, but then day after day, I just got tired and decided that a native Seattleite in his natural setting would enhance the picture. I can't tell you how many pictures I've appeared in by now... But that was years ago ^^;

Pro tip: It's not *actually* the first Starbucks. The first one no longer exists. I think this is actually the 2nd or 3rd, but it is the OLDEST SB. They used to sell teddy bears in SB aprons and I bought 2 for a friend, but they don't sell them anymore. I wonder if SB fans are major collectors for this kind of thing... If they are, I should have stocked up the way everyone stockpiled Beanie Babies in the 90's...

Looks like they sell on ebay for $17?
Chances are real Starbucks fans are out-of-date hipsters who are so over teddybears, or people who are too poor from buying coffee to buy anything else.
