:/ This just in from Mon+Amour:
Mana will be appearing at Anime Expo (Anaheim, CA) to have a "discussion panel and autograph session" on July 1 2006. He will sign one officially licensed Midi:Nette product per customer.
The event is billed as "Mana-sama Discussion Panel & Autograph Session", so I assume the rest of M10M will not be present.

AX's site: (though the info is not posted there yet)
http://www.anime-expo.org/

Honestly, I was hoping we could avoid stuff like this. Thoughts? :/

I really wanted an autograph session or something like this...but at an Anime Con.

No me gusta.

I dont' see why a record store or club or even maybe a place like a hard rock cafe couldn't be used. Last time I looked, Mana-sama wasn't animated.

Eh, don't like it very much, but eh...what can ya do?

Luckily, i'm not going. I want to avoid those types of crowds, and i'm quite happy with seeing them live, sans Anime Convention.

How disappointing. :(

In the near future, I will be bringing more J-Rock bands over to the US. I will personally guarrantee that each of them will be treated with the highest of respect, honor, and dignity that any VIP is entitled to. That means no auctions, personal dinners, or other shameful and condemnable events.
I hope at least NOFU won't make M10M actually perform at an anime con because I would definitely consider that a "shameful and condemnable event". M10M have no connection with anime beyond being Japanese.

Personally I don't think any Japanese band should tour the US as long as they are sold on the basis of their being Japanese, rather than the quality and style of their music. Would anybody think of making a US Goth or Metal band perform at a Star Trek convention? I don't think so.

Maybe we can have a Matin autograph session :lol:

The "only licensed Midi:Nette goods" thing sucks too, because I would only want to get embarrassing old things signed XD Not that I'm going to California anyway.

EDIT:

I just want to say that this bears repeating a million times over.

A Matin Autograph session would be ... interesting ::eat::

I would want my Voyage poster or my Madousho Binder signed. But, I'm not going to California so...

I saw that mail and thought I would get to find out the Chicago/NYC/Seattle dates.

::erm::

Mana-sama + Anime convention = ::hora::

It's really funny, because from what I've seen Gothic Lolitas try to stay away from things like Anime conventions because they want to be taken seriously with their fashion. (In Japan at least.)

Seems like what Tofu Records did with Tamaki Nami and T.M. Revolution at Pacific Media Expo in 2004 (which was also in Anaheim). They held the concert at an actual venue and did panels and autograph sessions at the convention. Poor Psycho le Cemu... Although PMX would be more fitting for Mana, Anime Expo just happened to be the same time that he would be in Anaheim.

First seeing the news I was surprised and I pulled a Macaulay Culkin without the actual screaming (I think I would have if my roommate weren't sleeping). But I guess it will be like Japan Expo, only there will be all these anime fangirls that have never seen Mana until that moment and get all googly eyed and annoying....those who saw Kisaki and Riku at AX last year know what I'm talking about...

I really hope he has an autograph signing session in NY :\

Meh, don't care where Mana goes as long as he focuses on doing concerts...

Although, Mana really should be at Tower Records or FYE if he wanted to do autographs signings. It just seems more logical with the fact that those are music stores majorily selling music as opposed to Anime Expo which majorily has to do with anime.

However I can see what the reasoning is with some Japanese artists going to anime conventions, seeing how those that go to cons are interested in most things Japanese, whether or not if they like tradional/popular Japanese culture in general.

But there is nothing we as mere observers can do other than to express our dismay of what happens to some of our favorite Japanese bands/celebrities/artist to exactly who does set up these events. And if this was set up by Nofu then I'd have to say that they highly contradicted themselves.

Shame on you Nofu. Shame on you.

If I remember correctly, there isn't a music store of any kind in the area (there is a House of Blues store in Downtown Disney..but..imagine Mana in costume in Downtown Disney XDDD). There's mostly restaurants and hotels since it's a tourist area.

Sure it could - they could be selling dinners and guitar lessons with him on eBay. It could always be worse.

But yeah, this is still bad. XD

Nofu, I'm disappointed in you.

But that's okay. I was expecting to be. :(

This is totally the wrong kind of crowd that I wanted associated with Mana. Bleh.

Well, Mana will have his fair share of giving autographs to overweight Yuna's and Illuminati cosplayers.
