Uh, Kaya frightens me. D: He kinda goes from talking about his puppet in an almost.. sexy (for lack of a better word) way, to talking about eating it. Yum. D:

Haha, yeahhh. This song is a bit freaky ::shifty::

HERE IS A SECOND INTERPRETATION OF KUGUTSU.
Since I already did it. I find the two quite different.

Thank you.

Kugutsu

Among wriggling darkness
Such a beautiful world exists

On a blackened night swarming with demons of all kinds

Your clinging threads in hand I draw you to me
Take in your musky scent, my tongue crawing down your body

You say you were deceived?
Ah, what a naughty boy!
Don't go saying bad things about me...

Tell me, what did I do wrong?
I only gave you a dream...

Ah, that's quite enough from you
So, quietly, lie down like always

Dominated, manipulated
On this fabulous, wavering night

You shall be my doll

Let me delude you, let me confuse you
Into a doll's blurring dream

Your body oozing with heat

Your bones will creak

The darkness does descend
On the singing, dancing demon parade

So tell me what you wanted?
Ah, I can't hear a thing...

Dominated, manipulated
On this fabulous, wavering night

You shall be my doll

Let me delude you, let me confuse you
Into a doll's blurring dream

Your body oozing with heat

Pure white skin
I just want to eat you up
Love jammed deep down your throat

Consumed, taken away
In the swarming crowd of demons

Darling, with eyes closed

Come inside...

....anyway. I think that was a little rude cassis (your reply to my post).

EDT: and we already went over what the titles were, aka. Kugutsu, Hannya etc a few pages ago and described them all. Please read the thread before you post. ALL of you.

Well it seems that during previous(07/21) in-store event Kaya wore a black kimono pictured in page 5 of Hyakki Yagyou pamphlet.

His hair were shoulder-lenght and were in ツーテール style (I don't know this word but when I entered it in google, it showed me this: http://www006.upp.so-net.ne.jp/taket/cg/hatune0310.html )

He also had put ribbon on top^^

On rare occasions, yes.

@sorbet cassis & faith
Thanks for the translations!

They are quite different though o_o
Like I would read two different lyrics (each song).

I really like the lyrics for Kugutsu~
Not sure about which ones I like better though o_o
Seen from content, I like sorbet cassis' translation more, seen from how it is written I like faiths more.

@_@ Many translations are confusing XD

Could someone post the tracklist in romanji, please? ::shifty::
I got a bit confused with this different name things..

Nah, those're cool romanizations - I'd stick with them XD

I know there has been a lot of confusion with the titles, and I think I had something to do with that; I'm sorry.
Kaya chose titles that had multiple pronounciations and somewhat obscure meanings this time, which made it really confusing.
They even had to write the pronunciation in the magazine interview for the Japanese people!

But it's all set now.
The titles shouldn't be translated but left in their romanized form.

@Lardeen: The content is the same, isn't it? O_o
I believe Kaya said in an interview that this song is the anchor song to the album, and is meant to bring you into the World of Demons he's creating in his CD.
He also said that it's about him controlling someone like they're a doll and made some sexually suggestive comments XD
At either rate, I always run my translations through other people and they said it's accurate.

He said he explain the songs in a few days, and I'll be translating that so it should clear things up.
For now, you can go to my website

It's not quite done though so I was waiting ;_;

The entire idea I got from the song was about controlling someone as a puppet; certain parts of it seems to be Kaya talking to it. In particular,

"So what is it you want?
I don't hear anything..."

Seems to be Kaya ignoring cries for help from the puppet.

As far as the two translations are concerned, there will always be points of contention. I'm used to working with poetry, so my style is a bit antiquated. Faith's is a lot less formal.

To make things a bit simpler:

ayatsurare: ayatsuru is the verb for controlling puppets. The conjugation of ayatsurare means that it is possible for the puppet to be controlled.

misararete: misareru means to bewitch, or charm by magical means. Same conjugation - on this night of enchantment, Kaya can work his magic on the puppet.

Technically, Kaya simply repeats the two. I thought it sounded a bit grating in English, so I replaced the second one with a different word with the same meaning. Something we both decided on, apparently.

I think those lines are the most important in the song - to control and to work magic upon. So clearing up any difference in translation there seems to make most sense, to me. Interpret as you see fit.

And I clearly had a mental blank when I read hone as shin. It's bones, not lips. :)

Unfinished even, it's very awesome and I really enjoyed reading and looking around through everything. Like with nearly all things Japanese, it's not really my territory of interest or expertise, but I am appreciating the opportunity to look into some different and new sources of research. :) Your bottom annotations' greater detail put together more so the traditional influence the lyrics have.

Would you want to translate the content of the Web site you linked outward to? The list and numbering of all the demons recalled me to the Ars Goetia, not so much a European counterpart as probably the order was just arranged by the proprietors of the Web site. Yours reminded me a little of something I'm putting together for here. I could use your opinion on a couple of things for that, too...

And I took the questionnaire. I got the jyorougumo. :|

Ok, thanks, that's what I thought it to be =)

@faith
The content is the same, yes xD
I meant that the words sorbet used, are reflecting the meaning in a more direct way (at least in my eyes ::shifty:: ), yet I like you how pack something into words~ (...that sounds stupid, I hope you know what I mean u_u)
And I am not saying your translation is wrong or something! I appreciate it a lot that you are translating songs, entries and such and I really like they way you translate =)

Even though your site isn't done, I like it how it is so far~
Thanks for the link!

Just one thing: in the link title it says "hyakki_yagyou" yet in the "tab-window" (I just call it like that for now <_<; I mean this stripe thingie in which you see the name of the site) it says "Kaya - Glitter lyrics".

I'm glad people enjoyed the page. If you have anything to add to the fun stuff please let me know.

@ Orchid: YES *lol* I would love to make a dictionary of Japanese demons (if that's what you're refering to) But I have to find a job I like first...
I am, however, very interested in your project and would be happy to help in any way I can ^^

@ Lardeen: I think I do know what you mean. As Cassis pointed out, our styles of translation are very different. He/she seems to have been trained formally in translation, having mentioned taking classes, whereas my focus lies more in Anthro/East Asian, International Studies/Global Communication. As such, I assume our views of what it means to "translate" will be different.

It's not a question of whose translation is more antiquated or formally trained or anything of the like. It's simply what we consider important in creating and re-expressing "meaning". For me, the accuracy of the word order or rythm of the words in the original text is largely secondary to the intention and TPO of the text. It's not a poem; it's a modern day Japanese song that's constrained by the music it is meant to fit and the audience it is meant to appeal to. It's also an expression of Kaya's thoughts and what he wants to convey to his audience. In this case that seems to be "doll" "traditional" "Japanese" "gothic" and "aesthetics". If I were translating a novel I would chose a completely different style (as those who have read my novel translation might recall).

This time I decided to focus on making the text beautiful and easy to read while keeping to Kaya's original message as closely as possible. Perhaps you were trying to say that there's more interpretation (and room for interpretation) in my version? That's certainly true.

And that's why it's so hard for me translating without being able to consult Kaya on these things >_< I'm always very insecure about my translations in general because of that, even if everyone else says they're fine.

I like how you said "perhaps you were trying" ::kisaki::
I'm sorry ^^' Sometimes my English gets even worse and I don't know how to say things right so people know what I mean *bows down*
And yes, that's what I meant :)

Aww =(
I really like your translations and no need to feel bad for not being able to ask Kaya ^.~
