Padam Padam makes me want to dance.
With Kaya and Piaf. XD
It sooo french music!
How can I dislike this music?
Reminds me Yann Tiersen in some way (in a french way, maybe xD).

Aux Champs Elysées is sooooo cute!
I want so badly go to champs elysees and walk while im singin it! XD
aaaaaaaaaux champs elyseeeeeeees
aux champs elyseeesssssss ♪

I expected less.
I think Kaya have a powerful voice, but I really dont like the kind of music that he does.
With this songs I've changed my mind!

I wanna more, and now I want this album!

From the album - my copy arrived yesterday. =( Sadly I do not live in Japan and will probably never get to see Kaya perform live.

Well... We can hope he is going to make a world tour ;)..

XD

World tours never come to Chicago. They hit New York, (maybe) Florida, (maybe) Texas, and California, and that's usually it. =/ So even if there was one I'd probably have to fly across the country to see Kaya. That's why I didn't get to see him at PMX either. They didn't announce it far enough in advance for me to fly to California.

I should be getting the cd next week and, being French, I wonder how I'll like it. Those songs are all more or less cult here, so I'm hoping he doesn't murder them altogether, ahahahah! I really like him and some of his previous songs too, so I'd hate to have to resent him. I'm sorry I'm so fierce when it comes to my language and culture but I can't help it and instead of feeling honoured that Japanese artists should pick French words and songs, I tend to feel rather annoyed because it very often sounds like a joke at best, or like they're making fun at our language and culture. But I am glad to say that not all French people are paranoid like me, fortunately!

In any case I'm really curious at the result! :P

^ These cultic songs were perfomed by a lot of different people, and I'm quite sure that Kaya is not one of them who can murder them ;)
By the way, I'm so glad that he performed them in Japanese, so he won't make you angry with his pervertions of French ::meev::

Oh My God! You frightened me so much with your emotions that I decided that from now on I would never sing French even if I am sure that no one can hear me! Because I'm afraid that some Frenchman would hear it and kill me ::shifty:: I'm turning into a paranoiac.

^ Hey, I wasn't joking! I mean it!

So, I finally had a chance to listen to the full album and here's my opinion:

Aux Champs Elysees: As I already said, Kaya did a great job! He chose the style of singing which exactely matchs the song, so it makes you wish to walk down Champs Elysees (or just any other street, imagining that you're in Paris) and smiling to everyone!
C'est si bon: Well, Kaya's voice is great, but this songs needs more sex in vocal. It sounds too unemotional. Well, maybe that's better, because obviously Kaya can't sing jazz.
Je te veux: I was so dissapointed when I heard this song... Kaya could show us all power and beuty of his voice in this wonderful song, but he maid everything in his own way... hello, Chocolat ~ sweet version ~! And I won't be able to sleep well until I get an answer on the question, what Kaya did with the cats to make them cry like this?! Did he dance a waltz on their tales?
Padam Padam: along with the first track, it's the best song on this release, because Kaya really shows us his wonderful voice and fills this song with emotions.
Barairo no jinsei aka La Vie en Rose: the song I was expecting most of the others, but... I hate the arrangement Kaya chose. Yes, it perfectly fits the mood Kaya described us in his diary: like when you lie in your bed after a wonderful date and remembering the day. But no, it song should sound like you standing on the roof and shouting to the whole world that you're happy, that you're in love! Well, Kaya accomplished his own task perfectly. But I still upset that instead of his powerful voice and strong bright emotions I hear only calm and neutral ones. Well, I should better stop, because I can complain and cry about this song a lot, because I adore it's original version. But I still can imagine how Kaya performs it with full efforts... oh, dreams

Overall: Though I complained really a lot, I like this album very much, because if leave all the expectations behind, it's a great work. Though I would like to advise him not to pervert with so famous and great songs anymore.

Padam Padam: his voice!!!! :D!!! it reminds me of how he sang in schwarz stein. He was totally in SS-kaya mode for this song. And i like that mode. It's a fantastic track.

the rest of the album is a snoozefest more or less

My Mini Review

Aux Champs Elysees - 9/10
It was so cute, i can see it in an anime or something.

C'est si bon - 8/10
Like, it was super-jazzy ish. And jazzy in a good way, not like Masquerade-jazz. LOL I'm inspired to look into this genre and listen to this type of music, i'd never even heard of a "Chanson" before this release.

Je te Veux - 6/10
That was weird....but okay. I just wish his voice was clearer.
I didn't hear any cats..?

Padam Padam - 8/10
I can see this played at a ball. Because it's so waltz-y. You know?

La vie en rose - 10/10
Just lovely. I fall in love with those beats. It reminds me of Hydrangea indies version.

Overall - 9.4/10

My biggest complaint would be that Kaya did not sing in french, that probably would've made the entire package better, but it doesn't take away from the experience IMO.
Too cute. I fell in love =D And this has to be one of the most unique releases from any VK artist around. I like.

I have around the same review as yours, but i feel like it would have been worse in French, through, because he would have this miserable accent lol

the cats are around 2:45 until 3:00 :D

I think he sounds like a computer in Je te Veux. Like this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wZqIkQUx0gY

totally not intentional, btw....

(and while I'm here, I have a theory on how he got the cats to make those noises *points to sig*)

Well, C'est si bon is not typical Chanson (I wouldn't even call it "Chanson").

Listened to it for the first time a while ago...

I admit, when I've heard the first tunes, I was really in shock...and so sad, that maybe I'll never again hear electronic tunes in Kaya's music. But he does what he want to do and if he is happy, it's good~~ ;)
While I didnt ordered this and Last Snow, cause I was hesistating, now I'm sure I'll have to wait till I preorder any new Kaya's cd;(

But, I'm glad so many ppl like this album;) (and the part with cats's really cute xd)

I've just listened to the whole cd on Youtube. And I'm surprised, but in a good way. In fact, I've just listened to all the songs 5 times LOL And I think I'm going to listen to them another time and surely I'm going to buy the CD. I really love it.

All these songs are some songs that I frequently sing at home in french. They are old songs but I like singing them ^^ In fact, I regained them on an old hard disk last summer. And hearing Kaya singing them in japonese is so sweet. The few words that he sings in french has their charm too because, sorry but, I really like japonese accent ::squee:: It's so sweet hearing a japonese speaking or singing in french, you know ::squee::

Some remarks :
"Aux Champs Elysées". During all the song, I see in my mind, a lot of stars. Maybe, the users of MSN will understand why ^^

"Je te veux". Well, I like the effect of the past on this song. You can even hear the needle of the gramophone ^^ The voice of Kaya is not clear but it is like it was in the past. And the music behind the voice seemes to come from a barrel organ (in french : orgue de barbarie because I'm not sure of the traduction).
I'm crazy of that song .

"Barairo no jinsei". I really like the musical box at the end of the song :)

All these songs give me the envy (not sure of the word) to dance with the one I love :) ::squee::

Errm, got it today and here is a reeeaaally short review on songs, booklet etc.

Booklet: Admittedly I didnt like the style but its really grown on me. The booklet has a few nice pictures and is 8 pages long, so its good enough for a mini-album. 8/10

1] Beautiful and makes me happy - 10/10
2] Didnt really leave an impact, but still nice 6/10
3] Another favourite, I love the record player style & cats <3 9/10
4] Best track on the album and uses his voice well - 10/10
5] Its definitely a lot different from what I originally thought - 8/10

43/50 / 86/100

A decent effort by Kaya thats really as impressive as his last mini-album. The experimentation with different styles is great and definitely keeps things fresh. I really recommend some songs for getting new Kaya fans too.

the first song owns, this cd owns

the last song pisses me off because "la vie en rose" remains inextricably linked, in my mind, to the film "Jeux d'enfants", and seriously F that movie
(side note; the title of the film in Japanese is awesome: 世界でいちばん不運で幸せな私)

Seriously: the song is well done, it is well-composed; it is a good song. It is famous for a reason, but its use in that film absolutely devastated me in a good way. That film is one of a few that have completely wrecked me emotionally so here's a big middle finger to that song.

Luckily this Kaya arrangement strips the maudlin bits that would have recalled that film. I'm not sure I like the idea if the arrangement but I sure as hell like its execution, that is sexy as hell and quick someone make out with me while we listen to itttttt

I wonder whether Volume II will be a Chanson release... I wouldn't mind a Chanson single or a new experimental album, I'm just so excited *__* I looooove this album <3

Also on the obi, it said the release date of the album then something about August, so maybe thats when it will be released? [/speculation]

I hope the next CD in this series will be less "easy listening". I'd love to hear him try his hand (tonsils) at some Jacques Brel...
