The new single Foul play ni kurari / Sakurameikyu is sounds more polished and more expensive than all of "lolitawork libretto" - I think it's becauses Mana uses too much cheap synths; especially the bass..

1. Foul Play ni Kurari

It sounds like only real instruments were used in this song. The composition is polished and rather interesting. It starts off with an orchestra tuning itself and progresses into something that sounds like a pop song arranged for an orchestra. I like how the song switches between 3/4 and 4/4 timing. Kanon seems to have found her own style. One complaint I have with the song is that she sings in a "kid's voice" which is sometimes annoying and too shrill especially at the higher notes. Would have fit perfectly for an anime like "nodame cantabile" instead of to love ru.

2. Sakurameikyu

Sounds like a kanonxkanon song. It's not as upbeat/cutesy and slightly darker. She sings in her mature voice in the piece. It's alright, sounds like a standard jpop/anime theme song.

Verdict:
I don't know. Although the songs sound much more polished they also sound a lot more mainstream. Mana's work with her was.. kooky. This sounds good but meh.

Kind of lame how her discography is devoid of her first two albums. I wonder if her and Mana are done.

I always assumed they were done, but that is really strange that she would just erase two entire albums from her discog. Maybe she views that older work as incompatible with the direction her project is going now?

wow she's going to have a busy schedule!

I'm not going to see her since I was really not fond of the show she did at Seattle last year (wow already) but it's still nice to see she continues by herself.

Why do we even have this thread though...Kanon is no longer associated to Mana in any way...

^Well neither are Gackt, Tetsu, Juka, and Klaha...
Though I agree further Kanon discussion is probably more suited for "Off-Topic" now.

You forgot about Kaya and Hora! They're not related to Mana anymore either.

It's funny how the only interesting part of her live show in Seattle was when she opened with Still Doll (and whatever other song she did that was written by Mana too, I don't recall). Most of the rest of the show was a bunch of boring jazzy torch songs that all sounded kinda the same. And God, it felt like it went on forever. I was pretty into her set for the first few songs but it didn't take long until I was praying for it to end. (To be fair, if I wasn't dying with anticipation for MDM to come out, it probably wouldn't have seemed so insufferable.)

Way to delete your best work from your discography, dummy.

Gackt, Tetsu, Juka, Klaha etc etc were all part of Malice Mizer/Moi Dix Mois for years. At least they were on Midi Nette. Kanon was just some random chick Mana composed some songs for, and now she's closer to being part of the drooling otaku Akihabara crowd than a scaper. That said yeah...I meant the thread belongs in Random, not Moi Dix Mois.

Yeah, the whole anime song thing is somewhat of a disgrace, but I guess she's got to make a living somehow.

Moved it to the off-topic section, the people have spoken. If any disaffected Moi dix Mois members ever join her band I'll move it back.

Oh man, I listened to that sample for "signal" and it sounds extremely... anime-generic. It just goes to show, the Lord of Darkness was the best thing that ever happened to her, musically speaking ::mana::
