The new single Foul play ni kurari / Sakurameikyu is sounds more polished and more expensive than all of "lolitawork libretto" - I think it's becauses Mana uses too much cheap synths; especially the bass..
1. Foul Play ni Kurari
It sounds like only real instruments were used in this song. The composition is polished and rather interesting. It starts off with an orchestra tuning itself and progresses into something that sounds like a pop song arranged for an orchestra. I like how the song switches between 3/4 and 4/4 timing. Kanon seems to have found her own style. One complaint I have with the song is that she sings in a "kid's voice" which is sometimes annoying and too shrill especially at the higher notes. Would have fit perfectly for an anime like "nodame cantabile" instead of to love ru.
2. Sakurameikyu
Sounds like a kanonxkanon song. It's not as upbeat/cutesy and slightly darker. She sings in her mature voice in the piece. It's alright, sounds like a standard jpop/anime theme song.
Verdict:
I don't know. Although the songs sound much more polished they also sound a lot more mainstream. Mana's work with her was.. kooky. This sounds good but meh.
