Ok, I've always been against eBay unless it's uber-rare stuff, but I decided recently to give it a chance.. Until now.

It's my birthday soon and my girlfriend was wanting to get me something. She browsed eBay and got me a copy of Nocturnal Opera. Yay. One thing... It's a bootleg -_-!!!

Reasons I know it's a bootleg:
Has Miya Records on it instead of Midi:Nette
Says 'Made in Taiwan'
Catalogue number is MICP-024
It doesn't have the CD credits at the end...

So yea, I'm pissed off at eBay because my girlfriend spent a bit of money to get something that wasn't even authentic... >_<!! I'm going to give her money for it because that isn't fair..

Well...that really isn't ebay's fault. It's the seller's. :(

I'm addicted to ebay, myself. You just have to be careful about who you buy from and what you actually buy.

Helpful hint for the future?

I was told that it's very important to check the feedback score of the sellers. Anything lower than 90% is dealing with risky business. If there's anyone who's a better person to talk to about this it would be flowersofnight, because I have no Ebay experience--at least as of yet.

Also, I dunno if this is a First Press thing, but isn't the NO cover the Mana holding Mana? My version has the Mana with the scythe.

Another thing, can someone scan and upload the Obi for the REAL NO for me? Thanks

Well it is definitely a bootleg. I have seen these all over eBay. It is not eBay's fault, but really it is. They should be more careful and I believe they should be held liable for the amount of bootlegs that pop up on there (not just talking Jrock). Of course they can't catch every single one, but there are sellers selling hundreds of straight bootlegs at a time and have been for years. It is so sad.

Tips for buying from eBay ne? User feedback is not always a good indication unless it has a lot of "wtf, you sold me a bootleg!!" in it. Just look at price for one. If it is considerably lower than the average price for a Japanese CD ($25-$35) than it is probably a bootleg. Also, if you are unsure, just email the seller. Ask "Is this a Japan version or a Chinese version?". If they answer with Japan, and they send you a Chinese version instead, you will then have proof to take it up with eBay about fraudulant auctions (though I believe they have to be over a certain amount for eBay to go after them). Just do some research. Most sellers selling stuff will say they are Japan versions to make sure people know it is not one of the many boots up there. If all else fails and you are very unsure, just go with one of the online stores if you really want something. You can be sure you are getting exactly what they are selling there.

Yea, I gave my girlfriend a bunch of pointers to try and avoid bootlegs in the future, but she said she will make a YesAsia account and buy me the CD from there, and she will take the Bootleg...

I still feel so bad for her though... Trying so hard to please me on my birthday, to realise that what she bought me was fake...

I hope you'll have better luck in the future

That is excellent advice, Lejun. I'm so naive when it comes to auctions, or anything! But yes, if you got a bootleg it can't hurt to make it well-known to all future buyers by giving them very negative feedback to express your disappointment (and of course make it known to Ebay, if you can.)

To end with a bright note, I doubt you can have the same bad experience twice in a row! After all, just consider this learning through experience. :)

*will shut up now because she doesn't yet have an account of her own :P *

THat's one reason why I never shop at eBay. I've heard so much about it, I decided not even to shop there....Even if I have to pay extra...I'd rather get my stuff imported from Japan....-.-;

No need to dismiss it completely. Just be smart about who you are buying from is all.

Yes, you REALLY have to research the sellers out. I once ordered a CD and got sent an "Sing Along with Annie" CD and they claim they sent the wrong item, but the invoice had the right CD, and everything else. Also, tons of feedback on the account that said they got the wrong CD. My bad.

It really helps if a friend you know knows the seller or has purchased from them before. If not, try mailing a buyer and ask how everythin was carried out. Doesn't hurt and saved a lot of time and money.

Yes, it's a huge shame to see many fake Moi dix Mois CDs now. And now there are some [Dix Infernal]s goin up too. I've seen some German buyers pay 45 Euros for the fake Malice Mizer Voyage+Memoire CD.....

I agree with LejuN on this. But either way, it's a shame that people are selling fake or non-official Moi dix Mois or Malice Mizer CD's....or even more than that....
