So recently I bought on Amazon.co.jp the Blam Honey VHS for 20 bucks. It was in pretty good shape so I bought it. Last week I received it and I tried to play it in my NTSC VHS (which I assumed it would work and everything works fine... except the picture is in black and white) I don't really understand why because the rip that is on youtube shows it in colour and I don't really get it. I tried to know more about the subject and I read that it was a problem with my TV because it didn't read the signal well or something like that. So I tried ripping it to my computer using the EasyCap and trying the different regions to see if it works. Sadly it still is black and white in all the regions I try. NTSC-J, PAL 60hz, PAL 50hz. Also my VCR works well with the other VHS I have at home so... can someone please explain me how to rip it? I am sorry if this topic already existed, I searched one and I didn't find one.

I'm amazed so many people I talk to find the Blam Honey VHS from Amazon and yet every time I look it says no one's selling it...

Well I knew that the page of the auction since June but it was the first time I saw it in stock. I bought as quickly as I could because it doesn't happen very often for that item to be in stock. You have to check each week I guess. (it worked for me)

Yeah, losing color from aging doesn't make any sense. However, if you're encoding the video using those different standards and none of them has yielded color on the computer, I can't come up with anything to suggest it was in color to begin with. :-/

Sorry, man.

:/... Ah, that's so dissapointing. At least the image is clear and the sound is great I guess. I was afraid of that response but I was expecting it at the same time. Thanks again for answering!

I'm gonna take a guess that your video is genuinely in black and white.

A google search show that there is very little evidence for videos losing colour as they age (then another of the top searches I saw was "How does a videotape work?" which makes me feel kind of old haha).

Every Rip/video I've seen of the Blam Honey tape is a mixture of both black & white images and colour, even the "fake" Deep Hole video which features clips from the video (which I'm sure is taken from an upload by Ryonai as he used to upload camera pointing at a TV scene videos of the early Blam Honey videos).

It's a shame Ryonai isn't as easy to contact these days as he was during the Myspace days :P

Oh, so I guess my tape isn't defective after all? Thank you for answering. HAHAHA I didn't know he used to film his TV silly Ryonai. Sadly i know him only since he came back so I really don't know his personality before... but it doesn't surprise because just like Dada he must get SOOOOO MUCH SPAM that he just doesn't even bother to read them anymore :/

Contacting Ryonai, or rather get an answer out of Ryonai isn't the easiest thing even if he do answer...
But it's weird your tape is black and white since people have have shared the videos from that some time ago, and it was in color O_-

Yeah that's what weirds me out... but it's an official and I can prove it. Anyways it's a bit disappointing but yeah. I will ask my friend that when she goes to japan to rip it there just to see if it will make a difference. But the tape plays very well and the sound is okay. Anyways XD

Just thought of something: are you getting hit by Macrovision protection? I guess it's ludicrous to think that something taped over a VHS previously used to record the 3AM showing of "Broken Arrow" could possibly have protection, but I dunno. On my video capture box there's a secret feature to bypass the protection.

Oh I never heard of Macrovision protection but I could try... What is your video capture software? I use easycap with the software it came with but. I am curious. Thank you for answering

Thank you I'll try virtual dub once I get home from school. But your capture device is too expensive for me I bought mine for 20 bucks and it captures decent resolution 640x640 ish but yeah I'll try it ^^
