I'm surprise that there isn't a thread for this band because they kind of strike me as a scape band.

Is anyone here a fan? I'm kind of a casual fan, it takes them to damn long to release anything so I tend to forget about them between releases :E Amentia is probably my least favourite from them but everything else I've enjoyed. I really like the new single, it's pretty fast and heavy which is the usually kind of crap I like but they do some slower stuff as well.

I've never heard of them before, but they just seem like store-brand Versailles to me. I didn't like that single at all, personally ::bleh::

Yeah, when I looked at the picture I briefly thought it was Hizaki and Kamijo at the front.

Nothing new under the sun, but their vocalist is not bad.

@eMiNaTiC : French names?

It's not a matter of having time or not, ahahahah! It's just how it is! Takes no time at all when it's your native language. And you MUST find time for words and for thinking, or you'll end up a robot! :P

I really like them and I don't think they sound like Versailles at all, although Rita does look a bit like Kamijo. If anything, their music reminds me a bit of Malice Mizer. Especially here:

I'm not that keen on the new single though. I don't think it's as catchy as a lot of their other stuff.

Those have been around since the early 90's, so it's unlikely they're going anywhere any time soon.

OK, so they aren't really doing anything new- they seem to be patchworking together lots of other bands styles, resulting in something a bit different, yet ultimately not groundbreaking. Also their visual style seems a bit uninspired, and they have that sort of haphazard thing going on where the band doesn't quite match.

However they are going against the grain of what's expected of a Visual band these days and taking a risk with a style that might seem a bit odd or outdated to modern fans, so I suppose you have to give them credit for that. And a misshapen and uninspired visual style doesn't make them a poor band overall, just not brilliant at the 'Visual' side of VK. I suppose as well that there have always, right from the 80's and 90's, been bands who haven't put much thought into the visuals and just gone digging around at the back of a specialised shop or company storeroom, so singling out E'm Grief would be a bit unfair.

If I'm honest as well, in some ways it's a bit of a relief to see a reasonably new VK band who actually look like adults, considering that the current fashions seem to be demanding 'cutesy'.

Also, I do quite like their music, and I suppose that's the most important thing. ::meev::

I think they're one of those unique Undercode bands.. I do quite like them actually. They've tried to do something different so I respect that as well.

However, has anyone ever listened to Amentia? I like it but seriously... Its a huge COF/Dimmuu Borgir rip off, patching together some of their tracks.

@Lem I wish there were blastbeats in that song you posted, lol!

The song sounds a little chaotic, overall it's average-sounding to me, but I must say that it is definitely above-average if we're considering vis kei. I might put this on my playlist randomly occasionally but I don't think I'll ever be a fan. I don't quite like the vocalist though, he sounds flat to me and his range seems to goes barely above an octave @_@

The visuals are nothing interesting though, they look like your average vk band to me.

Haha there are a lot of songs out there that I think it would sound so awesome with blast beats! This is kind of their heavier single, I haven't heard the TYPE A release that has a different song but TYPE B is pretty heavy. TYPE A might have the obligated ballad.

I don't think anyone said they sound like Versailles, just that they look like them.

Yeah, I mainly just thought the image was a rip-off rather than the sound, but their music isn't really original either.

I'm not going to listen to that single again because I thought it was pretty much just a jumbled mess, but I remember some orchestral hits and chord progressions that were Versaillesish and the church bell FX that reminded me of Malice Mizer. I didn't feel that they were ripping off either bands' styles, just that they were being kinda cliche and cookie-cutter.

FAKE EDIT: I listened to the song Geisha posted, HereticalGlare, and that one does remind me a lot of Malice Mizer (a LOT). There's an accordion and ticking clock intro that leads into an ILLUMINATI-style electro piece. The singer sounds a lot like Gackt in that song and one of the members has Kozi-style dreads/braids too. There's a violin break that reminds me of Voyage too. It's a better song than their new single, but it's still not very good IMO.

Not to be a curmudgeon or whatever, they're just definitely not my cup of tea.

Ah, I guess I jumped the shark. I'm use to people accusing anything that remotely tries to run around in frilly aristocratic dresses as a Versailles rip off ::meev::

I believe the first Japanese band to use a "French" name were Les Rallizes Denudes (apparently it doesn't mean anything, it's just slang used by university students who were into French things). They were formed in 1967 and were the cultest of all cult bands.

Would be nice if they at least used a French keyboard, with é, è, ê, à, â, ù, û, î, ô and ç. That the words should be randomly put together and mean absolutely nothing is bad enough as it is. ::kiwi::
