Although I'd heard these songs before live, I wasn't sure how I'd like them on CD. I liked Carmilla live but wasn't too thrilled with the CD version, Ouka was nice but the b-side was meh. And there's Masquerade... where Psycho Butterfly was good. So I wasn't sure what to expect.
I'm so glad I bought it.
1. Chocolat
This song is so sweet! I really like the lyrics. You can feel some sadness in them, but it's like a movie with a happy end, haha. The music reminds me of Perfume - electropop. It's fun, HAPPY and cute. I like it a lot. Kaya's vocals are nice, very soft and lots of high notes.
2. pourriture noble
I haven't followed Hora since the release of "THE WORLD" and I've read lots of bad reviews of "ICEBOUND", but this seriously blew me away. If Hora makes an album with this style of music, I'm going to buy it. It reminds me a lot of Schwarz Stein, but... grown up. It's the direction I imagine Schwarz Stein would have taken had they not split up. I really hope that Kaya continues to have Hora compose for him.
It's completely opposite to Chocolat. It's dark, decadent and crazy. You get that feeling from the music, but especially from the singing/lyrics. Think of Rose Jail, Queen of Decadence and Kaleidoscope combined into one.
This makes sense since Kaya said in the Cure interview that Chocolat (a liqueur) is about affectionate love, the kind that makes you happy when the other person is happy, while pourriture noble (a kind of French wine, apparently) is about passionate love, the kind that drives you crazy, jealous and makes you want the person to look at no one but you.
3. Chocolate ~sweet version~
I read in Cure that the reason Kaya goes, "Ahh~~!" at the end of this song is because he was thinking, "Oh god, what have I done..."
OH. MY. GOD.
I had the same reaction as Hydrangea: "Who's that singing at the beginning...?"
Except it didn't stop. For a moment I thought maybe it was SIZNA... and then it continued. And I realized it was Kaya... being... cute... and child-like. And it freaked me out. He sounds like Teppei... or his younger brother trying to imitate Nomico's singing.
Unlike Hydrangea (which I love) I don't know how I feel about this song apart from FREAKED OUT. Maybe it'll grow on me, maybe it'll make me run away screaming in terror from the concert.
4. Chocolat ~Kayaless version~
I hope this means it will be put into karaoke. I really do.
Also, I really wish pourriture noble had come as an instrumental as well. (Seriously, Hora needs to do an album of neo-digital decadence [what Kaya said he requested from Hora when making this song])
I really recommend the CD, if only for Hora's composing and the b-side.
