There's apparently a Neko Atsume booth with a giant Tubbs plush you can take photos with. Heaven is real ::squee::
I have seen pictures of it and I am so jealous of anyone who gets to be with Tubbs in real life.
Neko Atsume has stolen my soul, over the past year or so, I have managed to see all the cats and have all of there presents. I have no life ::weepy::

WOOOO AMURICA! ::foot::

Man, I did a "prep session" with the 18 year old seeking asylum. The attorneys and the two of us basically went through what the interview with the judge will be like. He was a really nice guy and I made sure I wrote down what I need to work on Spanish-wise (gang-related words). He actually knows English super well. What's hard to believe is how life and death this situation is, and how much he had gone through. Now he's a cook at a restaurant near NYU. If he goes back to El Salvador he's going to die, it's hard to believe.

Earlier this week I was putting together a bankruptcy petition, and I mentioned to Jennifer that I wasn't sure whether I should put the woman's boyfriend paying her rent as income. (Turns out you must!) I said her boyfriend doesn't live with her, but is paying the rent for the apartment she lives in and wrote out a notarized statement confirming this.
If I overheard correctly, her boyfriend was rich, but they broke up so now she has to file for bankruptcy and it seems he's still paying the rent as a nice thing for now.

Somehow this turned into a conversation about sugar babies. Jennifer said it's just like having a rich boyfriend who pays everything for you, but just no strings attached. I mentioned how out of college girls, NYU has the most sugar babies. NYU PRIDE!!!!
But I also saw interviews about it because it has become a NYU problem and it doesn't seem that... great in reality (what a surprise). There's currently a new documentary being made about NYU girls doing it.

I said the only thing I don't like about these arrangements is that people who promote it make it sound like this will "advance your career" and that it's a great investment, like investing in your education. I saw a video on a recent sugar baby conference and that's all they were talking about, how empowering it is, how this will boost you and make your dreams come true.
Don't dress it up, we all know what it is XD Jennifer agreed on this point.

Jennifer then said, "I always said I would marry rich." Not sure what I said, but she then said,

J: I want to be a millionaire so I'm going to marry a millionaire.
A: Why don't you become a millionaire yourself?
J: I can't because I want to do government and public interest work.
A: So you want to marry a guy to get his money?
J: Yeah, basically.

I was so appalled XD I just thought, "Help!" I think what bothered me was the entitlement ::meev::

I dunno, I can't imagine marrying a guy for his money or even relying on a guy to support me financially. I want to have my own thing going and to be able to support myself. It was hard enough for me to accept Ricardo offering to pay for lunch/dinner XD

Speaking of supporting oneself, I got the Domestic Violence Action Center scholarship for my commitment to their goals so I'm putting it towards my Shanghai dorm and now I won't have to pay anything! ::squee::

After my audition where I performed Finding Nemo the lady I auditioned for said, "We'll be seeing you soon!" I'M IN! So I'm starting the film acting class this week where it's higher level and we'll see recordings of ourselves acting. I'm also starting filmmaking class this week too, eep!

I'm also a bit worried about the photography shows on July 7, 28. XD I hope the reception is fun and the closing night party on the 28th is fun too! :B

We had another election here and it already looks like we're heading towards another hung parliament. I'm struggling to remember a time where there was any political stability, it just seems like Labour is in one term and then Liberals the next with each party having internal struggles and someone usurping the leader.

Also, I don't know about other countries but our ballot papers here are huge!

What are all those, different parties you can vote for? Here they make it fairly difficult and expensive to get on the ballot, so it's generally not a problem. Besides which, we mostly use electronic voting machines now - which was the subject of a lot of conspiracy theories back in the George W Bush days.

That big one is for the senate, we also have a house of reps paper that has 6 or so options.

The senate one usually has all the parties running for the senate, split into individual party members and then a heap of independents as well. There was a great website that listed everyone you could vote for, but I can't seem to find it anymore, I guess now that the election is over it has been taken down.

Here is another - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Candidate ... eensland_2

Here (France), each candidate has their name printed on a small white ballot paper. They're neatly arranged on a large table and you're supposed to pick one of each (but most people don't bother with the names that are hateful to them). You also pick a small blue envelope and enter the polling booth to insert the right paper inside. Then they check your identity and voter card and you vote. Then you sign their register and leave.

Only for local elections do you vote for a team, so the ballot papers are larger and usually colourful.

I drove home from band rehearsal last night and there were fireworks going off all over the place. I must have driven by at least 4 different displays on the way home O_O At first it was kind of cool, but after a while it got kind of annoying and very distracting. It's hard to drive responsibly while giant flashes of light are exploding in the sky before and behind you o_O

I was doing another bankruptcy petition when Jennifer said, "God!" I asked, "What happened?"

J: When I go on LinkedIn I keep seeing guys I slept with.
A: Oh...
J: It's like, I don't want to see your face!

I asked if they were from school and she said yes, and one from her hometown. I've never had sex of any sort so I couldn't fully relate, but there was one guy I met at a club who I spent hours with, and he popped up on my LinkedIn somehow XD It wasn't a good memory because I ALMOST lost my furry hoodie that I loved and he insisted he would buy me another jacket, but it's not the same, you can't just BUY some new one to make it all better. So I felt strange for the rest of the night even though some girl returned my hoodie. He wasn't a bad guy and I enjoyed myself, but nearly losing the hoodie made me think of better times and I promised myself never to do anything like that ever again. Because I'm a nerd. Then he popped up on my LinkedIn. Weeeeiiiiiird. I didn't tell any of this to her though ::meev::

I did my first filmmaking class and it was intense! I don’t know how I'm going to do this AND acting AND my internship XD I only have 7 other classmates and they seem like cool, nice people. When I said I was in law school they cheered me and one girl said, "GET IT GURL!"

We had to fill out questionnaires and it asked what movies I liked. I wrote Disney films from the 1930s to 1950s and from the Renaissance period along with some Pixar films like Up. I also like Chinese films, especially 1980s-1990s Zhang Yimou films like "To Live."
I was asked what my favorite movie was and I wrote, "Beauty and the Beast." I was asked why and I said it was perfect, from the story, the music, the acting, the pace, the expressions on their faces, the art, etc. They asked how it made me feel and I wrote, "I want to be part of something that beautiful." I added that I felt the same way about "Sleeping Beauty."
Then they asked what kind of films I want to make (haha) and I wrote one people will go back to time and time again and that is beautiful, especially if it brings a smile to their faces. I would also like to do something about Peru and my memories of China.

We were asked to share our answers and I completely nerded out. At the end my professor asked if there were any live action movies recently that I felt the same way about and I couldn't think of any.
I can research Disney movies forever, learn about the process behind each film, read about the people behind the films, and feel totally inspired no matter how many times I see the movies, especially Beauty and the Beast. I can't say I feel that way about any live action ones!

We went through breaking down a script into acts/turning points based on theories of screenwriting and how to write a screenplay, along with correct formatting and downloading programs that help you format the screenplay correctly. It's amazing! While we were breaking things down I matched each turning point, climax, moment of darkness, etc with Beauty and the Beast and it fit perfectly! @___@ Our prof said that European and Asian movies don't follow this form so I wonder what form they follow.

We did a ton more, and my homework is to write a scene in screenplay format based on a monologue we wrote in class, and to film 1-3 minutes of something I see that moves me, in one take. EGAD.

Still having database issues here -_-
If anyone gets the "DEBUG MODE" error when they try to post, just drop a quick note here or wherever. I'm hoping this is just a transient error in the database. For now I took a backup of the whole DB just in case.

Is it really wise for someone to sleep with too many people in their narrow legal subspecialty?
My first million will be made by inventing a dating service for lawyers to meet non-lawyers ::meev::

I don't know why she tells me these things ::meev:: But they're generally from her law school/school/hometown, I don't think she's specifically sleeping with law-related people, at least from what she's told me.
But no, I don't think it would be wise to sleep with so many people from your area of law XD I don't like mixing work and my personal life very much, I can't imagine sleeping with many people in whatever area I'm working in!

*watching Beauty and the Beast clips* Craaazy ol' Maurice...
I SAY WE KILL THE BEAST!
It was pretty amazing how I was able to match certain moments of the movie with the screenplay form basics. It's like learning a whole new language and all of it making sense all of a sudden. Or learning how to do a math problem, and you solve it and get the right answer.

OK along with Sleeping Beauty I do feel the same way about The Hunchback of Notre Dame too. That one had great camera angles and art, and music too. Sigh. I just admire each one. And the "Waking Sleeping Beauty" documentary was on another level.

Still nervous about my opening reception tonight. I CAN'T!!! EEP!!! I have my outfit picked out, which is good. Eep. MY BABIES!!!

LinkedIn tried to create a dating app that would connect singles with other professionals in their fields who are also hungry for love as well as networking opportunities, but I have no idea how successful it is... I'm not sure I'd want to marry someone just because our jobs are the same, though...
"You got a job unrelated to your college education? What a coincidence, me too!" ::meev::

Yeah that just sounds like asking for trouble XD A few failed relationships too many and you'll be known as the "Black Widow Of Supply Chain Management" or whatever ::meev::

Personally I never saw the point of LinkedIn at all. It seems to me that either you're like me and you'll never be "linked in" to anyone who can just give you business opportunities, or you're already some rich 1%er type who gets this stuff handed to you anyway.

LinkedIn is pretty good for keeping tabs on people in the tech field and can lead to good job opportunities if you have a strong network with people who have worked with you before and can headhunt you for their projects, but it's never done much for me...
I did talk to a sales manager once who instilled the fear of LinkedIn in me by telling me she would never hire a salesperson who has fewer than 500 connections on LinkedIn because she was also hiring for their connections to market to them. She saw I had less than 100 connections and her exact words were, "Oh boy are you in trouble..." Some people swear by it, I just kind of let it sit. But I do update it when something professional changes though. ::foot::

Instead of dating through LinkedIn they should join some of those ELITE dating sites that use LinkedIn XD
https://www.elitesingles.com/
http://www.theleague.com/
www.sparkology.com/
EliteSingles is only for those who want a serious relationship. Over 90% of our members are 30+ and over 80% have a university degree.
The profile is similar to most apps but there’s a huge focus on education. Where you went to college is listed at the top. The League pulls directly from your LinkedIn and Facebook, which is a hit or a miss, because the Profession listed is not my current position. At least I look good in my profile pic.

Input what you’re looking for in a match in Preferences. Unlike Tinder, you can actually search by height (6 feet and up please!) as well as location, ethnicity and age. There’s also the option to be Highly Selective, Selective or indifferent to education. If you’re looking for a Harvard man or an Amherst girl, go for Highly Selective.
The advertisements for these things were all over the place at NYU, especially in the bathrooms XD I don't really understand the emphasis on the school one goes to, as though that determines whether you'd be a good match for someone XD

I use LinkedIn mostly to put anything I've ever done ever. It's basically me advertising myself ::meev:: For myself ::meev::

I think it gets meaningless if you have TOO many connections, especially if they're people you have nothing in common with and you just add just to add. I've only added people who I personally know, with the exception of like 5 mutual friends of my friends. So far I have more than 370 connections and I haven't added many law school classmates.

LinkedIn was helpful in getting in contact with a lawyer who did the China program I'm doing this fall. He's the only one I've found so far from the US who has done it, so I reached out to him on LinkedIn because I couldn't find any other way to contact him. He's working for the Department of Homeland Security right now as an asylum officer.

He's been super friendly and we connected and he told me what the classes were like, articles for me to read, and he said he had an amazing time and totally loved it.

So, yeah, LinkedIn has been helpful for not only allowing me to reach out to people, but to keep tabs on all my friends and people I know too! :)

Richard asked if he should wear all black with a beret to my reception tonight. He's such a nerd XD I told him to bring an artist's palette and brush too.

OMG I had such a great time at the reception! ::squee::

My mom, Corinne, and I got there and we were having fun. (More of the nerds will come to the second one, where the whole set will be displayed and the magazines will be sold!) Unfortunately the gallery is old-school and doesn't have AC, so we were dying on the inside gallery!

Anyway, my photo was placed prominently right at the front of the gallery, it was the first one you saw! There were so many people there that people even spilled out towards the street!

I met others who were also program participants and they were super nice! Corinne and I took nerdy pictures and I was really happy that she came for me. :D From doing photography in Shanghai to here, wow! It was just really nice to see her and we walked by every picture, giving our opinion on each XD My mom and Corinne made loud comments about my picture too, saying it was amazing LOL.

When a guy was staring at my photo my mom went next to him and she made all these comments XD What a nerd!

So I found Deborah the Gigantic Liberal, who is actually very nice, and she explained things to him. It was funny how "OMG~" they got when I said I had a question from someone who wanted to buy it XD

Then we went outside again and we had our picture taken by my mom and it came out so cute! Then we all said our goodbyes and I went home. The next one is going to be more activity-filled XD

I'm just so happy there was a huge turnout and it was fun! I'm glad people who I care about came, and I really appreciate it. I'm so happy! ^_^ ::squee::

How surprising! Takes a girl to believe a 30+ guy with a university degree can only be looking for a serious relationship. Whoever puts the ads in the men's rooms knows better

Haha yeah well. I dunno. I think plenty of girls want older guys for their money, and to make other girls jealous that they have an older guy who's into them. Don't matter what the truth is. So they can both be happy.

As for the others, college is the age where they still believe that they can win over guys with their stunning personalities and uniqueness, and it's good for them to get a little slap in the face from reality. Maaaaybe it's a guy who snuck in there to post the signs

I'm back in the USA for a friend's wedding! My GOD we've become worse than England. Queues. Queues Everywhere!
