Finished up watching Spice & Wolf seasons I and II.
Have you seen any of Maoyu? It's based on novels by the same author and has a similar set-up (politics and economics of a typical fantasy world).
I'm watching it now and it's pretty cute. I haven't seen Spice & Wolf yet but I'll probably check it out when I get the chance.

Also wow, video rental stores? The only one I've seen in the last 5 years or so is the one in Little Toyko. ::meev::

@Iska: I wish modern horror movies would be more innovative like Cabin In The Woods. I still like horror, but I tend to check out the old stuff and the classics.

@Cerceaux: I haven't. My sister had recommended Maoyu after I watched Spice & Wolf actually! And it does seem like something I'd be into, but I don't like waiting for stuff to load on the computer so I'll wait until it hits Blu-ray/DVD for it.

Yup, my town has two Hastings and I like to frequent them regularly. I'm a behind-the-times person who doesn't use Netflix. ::zetsubou::

Jesus Christ, of course I've seen Red Dawn. It's Red Dawn. ::ash::.
I didn't know if it was popular or not because I didn't hear about it even though it seems like right up my alley! XD

GO 'MURICA ::foot::

The remake must be pretty bad though. I do like how enemy changed to the North Koreans, it shows the passage of time~ XD

^^ If you haven't, you should watch Buffy the Vampire Slayer instead. It's thematically similar to Charmed but better in every way. It's funnier than most sitcoms, while its dramatic moments are much more real and affecting than one would expect from a show called Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

(Warning: the first season is largely made up of monster-of-the-week standalone episodes [which are still plenty fun] but in the second season, the show becomes more serialized, introducing the first of the great plot arcs the show became known for.)

OR you could watch Supernatural (or the first five seasons, anyway). Literally everything I just said about Buffy could be said about Supernatural.

I realize you didn't ask for show recommendations, but your mentioning Charmed made me think of Buffy and how much I love it (which, in turn, made me think of Supernatural and how much I love that).

Guillermo del Toro Develops Monster Manga as Possible HBO Show

I've always said that Monster would make a great live action show, and HBO doing it would be perfect because it's too long for a single movie, and 99% of the characters are Europeans.

Didn't you recommend an anime series named Monster recently? Is that related to this?

@Iskanderia

I'll definitely try to watch both series when I got time, I don't know much about Buffy other than she's blonde and kicks some ass? xD
I'm hesitant about Supernatural though, I find the concept was quite interesting but it always bothered me that I was bothered by the fact that the 2 guys in the series are brothers and not lovers... lol!

I saw Black Dynamite at my friend's the other night.
It's actually really really funny - and I usually hate comedies.
Thus, highly recommended. Plus it's on youtube.
Best scene by far is the blowing up car scene...twice.

Hehe, I acctually began watching season 1 some time ago with the goal to see all seasons, but I couldn't stand it and stoped after season 3. There's no Charmed ones without Prue ::hora::

I'd recommend "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel" if you want to get all "" I loved it! It was a pleasant surprise. I totally fell in love with Douglas, and at the end I was totally going, "DOUGLAS, GO BACK TO THE HOTEL! GO!" Later I found out that Douglas' actor is Bill Nighy, the same guy who played Davy Jones from Pirates of the Caribbean. I knew he was special, I just knew it! XD It was pretty insightful though, especially about the thoughts one has when one realizes they're getting old, and I really want to go to India now.

I saw "Cinderella" again a week ago, and I just love that movie. Shannen and I were in her room and we were all, "They don't make them like that anymore!" They really don't! I have such an appreciation for that and "Sleeping Beauty" now. They're so beautiful and now I have so many great memories attached to them. My mom bought a painting of Cinderella and Prince Charming on a bridge to put in my room, and seeing it made me tear up.

We also saw the ending of "Pocahontas" too, and WOAH, it was so powerful! Talk about dramatic and awful farewells :'( I really understand her breathing hard and thinking "This is it, this is the end," but needing to get that last goodbye because the first one, as wonderful as it was, just wasn't enough.

Also saw "The Two Escobars," an HBO documentary about Pablo Escobar (Colombian drug king) and Andres Escobar, a Columbian soccer player who got shot by the cartel because he made an own goal during the world cup game against the USA. It was super interesting to see how awful Colombia was at the time and how drugs and soccer were tied up. I've also never seen footage of Pablo Escobar having fun and making speeches before. It's really interesting, yet sad.

I had this weird question in my head as I watched. Pablo Escobar did a lot for the poor people with his drug money. He opened schools, soccer fields, hospitals, and built so many homes. But at the same time he killed a lot of innocent people. But then the government didn't do anything to help those people either, and many were sad when Escobar was killed, and they asked who was going to help them now. It was interesting to think about. :)

I picked up "Thirst" at Big Lots for $3. I'm not into vampire stuff in general but this one had an interesting story and wasn't the "brooding pretty boys" type of vampires and I liked Oldboy so I'd been wanting to check this out for a while.

But oh man, I have to gripe about the DVD, because some retarded person decided to to save a few pennies and hard-sub it with captions for the hearing impaired instead of proper English subs.
So basically your only sub option is to have stuff like "COUGHING" and "DOOR CLOSING" popping up on screen periodically above the dialogue. ::batsu::

Know what's a fun vampire movie?
Mr. Vampire which is a Chinese movie about "jiangshi"-type vampires.

Recently watched here:
"Escape To Witch Mountain" - wasn't much impressed by this. I think you have to see it as a kid to like it.
And George Lucas' "Howard the Duck" ::meev:: I wouldn't say it was "good" by any means but the '80s of it amused me.

Next, I mean to rewatch "Iria" at some point... or maybe "Mr. Vampire" XD

I've been seeing the 90s Nick block at night lately, and I've been watching some CatDog episodes. I never noticed how weird the episodes were, especially the art. It's really surreal and... grungy? Some parts are kind of creepy and really dirty, as if you're in some gross alley. I never noticed these things before.

My mom got me the DVDs for Sleeping Beauty, Finding Nemo, and Lilo and Stitch as a surprise! ::squee::
I've been watching "the making of"s for Disney movies when I have free time here, interviews too, and I loved what Ilene Woods, the voice of Cinderella, said about Cinderella:
"Someone said to me once, 'I don't know, Cinderella, women's lib, they wouldn't really like Cinderella. I mean, she really needed a man in her life to get along.' And I said you're wrong, she wanted to go to the ball. The prince had seen her, but she had not seen the prince. She wasn't going to marry the prince, she wanted really mostly to go to the ball and have a good time. She even left at midnight and left the prince. So I said, I don't think the main aim for going to the ball was to get the prince, I think it was to have a wonderful time. It was like a dream come true for her, the way she lived."
SHE IS SO RIGHT OMG. She went to have a wonderful time, she was proactive about it, the prince just popped in. I really admire Cinderella for how good she is, how she tries to see the good in everyone, and how she believes in her dreams even when things are bad. I can't help getting so happy for her when she got her dress!

I saw The Making of Sleeping Beauty again with my mother this time, and it's so inspiring. I can't even imagine being part of something so beautiful like that. ::squee:: *sigh*

Cerceaux sent me this scene the first time we talked after I came back from China because I reminded her of it, the way I talked, haha:
Cinderella wrote:
I'm sorry. I-I guess I forgot about everything, even the time, but... but it was so wonderful. And he was so handsome, and when we danced... oh, I'm sure that even the Prince himself couldn't have been more... more... Oh, well, it's over, and...Thank you. Thank you so much for everything.

Being so grateful you got to experience that and not expecting anything more, I know! ;___; Cinderella is a nerd and I am truly touched by how grateful and good she is. Just her face and voice when she says, "Thank you so much for everything" ah!
