Oh yeah, I'm sure if she had someone else who fulfilled her needs, she'd be just as happy with them but I think it would take quite a long time until she actually forgot your scent or the sound of your voice.

When I left Ohio 13 years ago, I had to leave my cat with my best friend. I planned on coming back for her once I had gotten settled in in CT. When I came back for her a year later, she definitely remembered me and seemed a little excited (she was probably attracted to my scent or voice because she associated them with pleasant things like food or play or cuddling - trust me, I have no illusions about that, but I think this is probably the case for all animals). Anyway, it killed me but I ended up leaving her there because she was loved and well cared for and it seemed cruel to both her and her new owner to upturn her life again.

They do prefer some people over others for no discernable reason though (some people are just better at petting and playing and cuddling than others, I assume).

That same best friend always joked that I would end up one of those cat hoarders with like 30 cats but I'm cool with just 2, so I, at least, believe you when you say you only want one more. (I've said it before, but it can't be stressed enough: research how to introduce new cats to each other before bringing a new one home).

cat nerds, help!!! :B
I can't imagine having 30 animals in my house, good lord.

My friend's class was canceled so she accompanied me during an errand, we had lunch, talked for forever, and then I decided to come with her to her piano practice just for a little adventure. Wow, I had never really explored the new spiritual life/religious building that opened at my university this year, and it's really awesome. Anyways, we went into the cellar and there were so many little soundproof rooms for people to practice in. I was like "Wow" when I peered into some of them and saw a student playing the violin. I have no experience in this area so I was amazed, even seeing lockers for different types of instruments was cool for me.

So we sat in the little room and had fun taking silly pictures and practicing. I haven't touched a piano in forever and she was so good when she played Chopin for me. I have so much respect for people who know how to play instruments ::squee:: My teachers didn't motivate me so I never took up the piano again, maybe I should at my school. I don't regret losing study time at all, haha.

I heard at the Disney store they're having this whole villain theme for the next few weeks (this week is Malificent themed), I'm totally going to check it out.

Speaking of Disney, I pre-ordered the Cinderella DVD. I think the commercial they made for it was amazing because it only needed the clock chiming to make its point. When you hear it you just "know" and when I first heard it (I wasn't watching TV), I was like "Wait... is that..." ::squee::

Probably a good idea that they soundproofed it. My religious practices can get pretty intense.

My colleague was disgusted that I only knew a few modernish French singers, and that one of the 4 I like was Mylène Farmer.
So he's been trying to get me to like others.

So far the only one I liked was Mika, who he gave me by accident thinking he was French (I looked it up to make sure and he's actually British).

Oh well;

Mika has a Lebanese mother and an American father, but he speaks French fluently due to living in Paris for a few years as a child. I guess he's British because he has lived in London a lot too.

Dude, this guy in one of my classes who sat next to me, he flipped out because a girl said she wished elementary/high schools would teach more about participating in our government (like voting, knowing how it works, etc.) He was like, "What do you WANT??" and people started replying and he just got so emotional about it, yelling at people and the professor, and I don't even know why. I always thought he was obnoxious because he made snarky comments when someone he disagrees with is talking, but he got so weird. Our professor repeated something that he apparently totally disagreed with and he slammed his laptop shut, shoved it into his bag, and walked out of the classroom. Everyone laughed.

And I just left the Disney store and I kind of... WANT EVERYTHING. They made the villains look beautiful, evil, (and young) and glamorous! I especially love the journals and scarves. It's hard to choose! I can't decide on either the Cruella de Vil or Queen of Hearts journal, they're both so nice ::kisaki:: Everything is actually pretty cool. Cruella de Vil's design is the best though, I love it. I think I might need (NEED) a shirt with her on it ::batsu::

I dunno. Dogs still have a strong pack mentality inherited from their ancestors, and I think that even though they can readily adopt a new "pack", their feelings for their previous owners come from more than just Classical Conditioning. I think dogs are sophisticated enough to recognize previous owners as "individuals" rather than just "former food machines".

New research has found that dogs even recognize their owners' faces, not just their scents. They also have a sense of justice when it comes to how food is dealt out. If you give one dog more treats than the other, they'll notice. I think this again goes back to their pack mentality, because food apportionment dictates a wolf's place in the hierarchy.

I don't know much about feline social behavior, but I think cats have a pretty developed system too. From what I gather, cats are solitary most of the time but somehow they specify meeting places with other cats and congregate on a regular basis, kind of like a club system. If that's true, then it makes sense that they would recognize you as an individual (not just colors and smells) and still remember who you are even after being separated for extended periods of time.

There's a lot we don't know about animals. I think it was only recently that we learned dogs see in color.

EDIT:
Wikipedia wrote:
Despite being solitary hunters, cats are a social species, and cat communication includes the use of a variety of vocalizations (meowing, purring, trilling, hissing, growling and grunting) as well as pheromones and types of cat-specific body language.

Although wildcats are solitary, the social behavior of domestic cats is much more variable and ranges from widely dispersed individuals to feral cat colonies that form around a food source, based on groups of co-operating females. Within such groups one cat is usually dominant over the others. Each cat in a colony holds a distinct territory, with sexually active males having the largest territories, which are about ten times larger than those of female cats and may overlap with several females' territories. ... Between these territories are neutral areas where cats watch and greet one another without territorial conflicts. Outside these neutral areas, territory holders usually chase away stranger cats, at first by staring, hissing, and growling, and if that does not work, by short but noisy and violent attacks. Despite some cats cohabiting in colonies, cats do not have a social survival strategy, or a pack mentality and always hunt alone.

However, some pet cats are poorly socialized. In particular, older cats may show aggressiveness towards newly arrived kittens, which may include biting and scratching; this type of behavior is known as feline asocial aggression.
I've also read that cats only meow at humans, they don't use that sound with other cats.

I was googling "dogs see in colour" and I came across this comment on an article:

My dog sent me 2 mental images the night before she passed and they were heavily in red, white and muted shades of gray/green. I know it sounds wishy-washy, but I wholeheartedly believe that a) my dog telepathically communicated with me and that b) she almost exclusively saw red. I was thinking my own train of thoughts of how much I would miss her when her 2 messages interrupted my thoughts. I had no idea where these images came from and then realized they were all from the perspective of a dog, and it was odd that I was wearing red pants and the shade of red in my hair wasn't quite right, it had to have been the way she saw me. I believe there must be some breeds out there who have the opposite of the yellow-blue-violet-gray vision. My dog was a Heinz 57 however...

lol

My first thought was: "Of course they do, haven't you seen 'The Lion King'?" ::meev::
I'm sure housecats organize themselves into prides too and lord it over the wildebeests XD

Clearly the dog was Italian.

I don't know if it is true, but I read that cats don't see in colour.

Aw my fuzzy little one leans against me when she's cleaning herself sometimes (though after I take a shower she jumps on my back and starts purring her head off. I already figured it was cause I wasn't such a smelly human anymore).

None of that makes cats evil though...I mean, human babies do the same stuff more or less XD
And humans still squint their eyes when they are mad.
...wait. Does that mean that we try to turn into scary animals too when we get angry??

My question was : how can a German (?) dog be Italian?

@Wandering_Fox : I love it when science treads all the nice things in life (by which I mean mostly : our illusions) underfoot, like love is purely a matter of pheromones, etc, etc. ::hora:: ::hora:: ::hora::

And clearly, the most shockingly evil thing a baby is capable of is BEING BORN AT ALL, ahahahah!

I know, right? That's why I love Cracked, just as long as no one takes it TOO seriously~ They sometimes make good points, but in a very sarcastic and contradictory way~ Hahahaha

Funny you should mention THAT, because there was another article some time ago about things no one tells you about giving birth ::meev:: (I read Cracked on the bus when I'm bored, so I've read a LOT of these articles... I should probably fill that time with something more productive like studying or something, but I'm just not in the mood while riding the 5:30am bus...)

I know what you mean about the 5:30am bus, I take the 6:15 bus, and I just listen to songs on my mp3.

I love the ALL LIVING CREATURES ARE EVIL AND LIFE IS HORRIBLE line that Cracked takes.
