I received my copy of Reprise today (without being charged for once
).
Here is a little review, I hope I won't repeat what has been said so far.
En Lumière: beautiful intro to Dialogue Symphonie, not to short, not to long.
Dialogue Symphonie: I appreciate the addition of some bells in the song. I was looking forward to hear a version of the song sung by Seth and especially sime high notes. I'm not disappointed and I enjoy the song as much as the original one.
Front et Baiser: this is definitely a very special song to me because it was the very first Moi dix Mois' song I heard and the one that made me fall in love with Mana's music. So I was naturally looking forward to this cover. The short intro definitely adds something to the song...I would say, something darker that IMO was missing in the original version. Really good surprise.
Solitude: Very similar to the first version, the guitars are a bit more prominent though. I noted the addition of of some choir and some string intrument (cello or someting else, I'm not an expert)in the background.
The Prophet: Another song I was looking forward since it's one of my favourite song along with Front et Baiser. I love the new version. Again no big changes, except that I can hear the instruments better and that I can understand the English lyrics now
Not really surprised by the cover since they played it during the Beyong the Gate tour.
Invite to Immorality: Well here I can clearly hear the drums, which is an improvement. I'm a bit dissapointed that it's so short, I liked the cheesy intro :p.
Nocturnal Romance: The organ sounds a bit weird to me in the beginning o.o No big changes again, just a better recording.
Vestige: Here it really sounds exactly the same to me. This time, keyboard sounds more prominent than the guitar.
La Dix Croix: Seth's voice really adds more power to the song IMO.
Here again, this song had been played suring the BtG tour so no big surprise.
Secret Longing: Like the original
Pageant: The guitars are more prominent in this version. I love the song so I really appreciate the cover.
Je l'aime: Really nice song. I was a bit startled by the numerous changes in the melody so it sounded a bit "messy' in the beginning but after several listenings you get the structure of the song. I appreciate the effort of trying to sing some words in French ( Palé moi d'amuuuuuuu).
Overall, the composition sounds "cleaner" to me. I don't know if the word is the best but that's how it sounds to me. Seth's voice definitely adds something to the songs that was missing in the orignial versions, don't ask me what though.
