My impressions:
Intro
The intro plays Cabinet and there is this weird doll with half her head open and then something comes out of her head and hides inside the desk and then she goes there and opens it, and it gets away. After, there is a zoom on the doll's red eye. Needless to say, at this point, you are already with WTFtastic thoughts in your head, and it makes no sense really, except for the odd factor. At least, it made no sense to me.
LOKI N' ROLL
So, Loki n' roll begins you are supposed to be happy and high, because this song is about rockin' out, so he choses these red and yellow lights to demonstrate the heat of live. Multiple screens, split screens, and some random effects appear here. He just abuses on effects on this song, since he is not using effects on his voice here, he decided it was cool to put them on video instead? And i still don't get what's the point of these hands smashing eyeballs and then there comes from it a flat stuff.....eh... You can also see kozi using his brand new guitar model here, in some clips.
As one of my all time favorites kozi songs, i am very pleased to see it on the DVD. I think he tried to recreate the upbeat of the song through the videos with so many effects and colors. A good idea, but i would rather not have those hands and eyes on it, and it can get way too busy at times.
INCOHERENTS
So here, you get to see kozi dancing a little. I specially like the footage of the NYD+WHO's MIND live, he seems to be more expressive and free there, at least comparing the other footages available. And here comes an interesting way of singing, kozi uses some vibrato-like way of singing. I thought this is a pretty good cool addition to the song.
HONEY VANITY
He adds some random footage PV-like to the live scenes. Think Gardenia from Cardinal. I think the images are related to the lyrics. I dunno, i think this one is not very exciting, but the bass lines are cool and he sings in a different approach, which is nice to hear.
CRIMSON STAR
Lots of footage from the 1st live here. And lots of moments "we like to not have cohesion between the singing and video, but we don't care, because we are having fun". I don't know why, but he reminded me of david bowie with that visual. anyway, he makes a lot of gestures with his hands, but doesn't dance much. Dancing is definately present in Incoherents.
I think this one and Honey Vanity's are the worst videos, not that they are crap, but i did not enjoy them as much as the others -- they are kinda 'meh', i don't know.
CRUEL ARCADIA
Black and White clip here. Reminded me of a Bauhaus live. It has the video speed-up, slow down and normal speed parts mixed together. i think this video is the best clip so far, it as a whole fits well together , even with many different lives. it does feel almost like a live-pv thing. It has a more homogeneous feel than the others, and has none of those hands-eyes non-sense. It has also some close ups of kozi singing, and some intense moments. At the end he says thank you and it finishes.
Definately i would rank this one, loki n' roll, and Incoherents as the best videos from this dvd.
FINAL COMMENTS
if this dvd was meant to represent the live experience of a kozi solo live, i think it lacks a lot, because i got the feeling it is like a lot of recollections of good moments from many lives put together. You can't experience a full performance of a song from a certain live, you've got to go through many moments put together, so it feels like an incomplete experience. I don't feel that i experienced a full experience from loki n' roll, for example. I saw many pieces put together with the live sound from some live. This makes even more difficult to criticise kozi as a frontman, i was starting to analyse his performance at one point, then it totally shifts to another clip, then i have to break the flow of thoughts about that one part. From what i can gather, he does have some style going on, but he is still far from being an excellent frontman, imo, but as i said before, due to the nature of this dvd it may be unfair to analyse kozi's performance as a frontman.
And then, there is also the problem of overflood of information. Too many clips at the same time, too many split screens, too many red colors flashing before my eyes, specially at Loki n' roll clip.
Judging it from another perspective, as a big digest of lives put together, it can be quite pleasant, specially for someone who never went to one of his lives, and get to see a bit of each, and for someone who went to some lives, and wants to remember. Too bad it has so few songs.
I wouldn't say it is an excellent dvd, but not crap either. I like to think about it as a good live digest. At this point, i think almost all the fans would want something, even if it is not a full dvd, so many people will be pleased with it.I wouldn't say it would be too interesting for someone who is not a big fan , though.
