 Can't believe this went for 33000Y. What's with this sudden surge of big-ticket sales?

From the "rare autographs" department: Masquerade demotape with all members' signatures

One of these men is the reprobate who stole Kyo's girlfriend and sent him spiraling into a world of 24/7 angst, but it was never revealed just who ::meev::

It's a lot of people in Japan reliving their lost youth. Seems everyone is now claiming they were a bangya back when. (source: Twitter searches, lol)

A highly suspicious GIRL'e

hmmm.... suspicious listing
Yeah, anything from qld96 is suspect in my book. I'd avoid.

We should make a list of questionable sellers. I saw one archived on 2ch somewhere once, that might be a good place to start if anyone can find it again.

lmaoo that's the same band that someone used to pretend Luci'fer was coming back. I wonder if it's any good.

Her "DEAD SILENCE" collaboration with Hinako was glorious, so I have hopes for it. (I'd love to find a full tape of that one day :( )

That would be a good thread to sticky. Even if you don't have that 2ch list.

I sadly wasted too much money on X JAPAN tapes by jnsyn936, all fake. Not only fake, but terribly sounding too. Do not recommend.

Here's a very pessimistic opinion from a Japanese writer in 2012:
https://anago.5ch.net/test/read.cgi/visual/1285430924/563

Their "collectors' rules for avoiding fakes":
- Don't go for demo tapes
- Free or livehouse limited CD-R demos should come with the ticket stub
- Buy CDs when possible
- Mail-order goods should come with their original envelopes/packaging
- Don't trust autographed goods without accompanying ticket stubs/packaging
- Don't buy anything else not mentioned in this list

That's extremely strict XD When was the last time you saw anything that came with a ticket stub?

Also: I'm not sure if everyone in the collecting scene has the same definition of "demo tapes". I think sometimes this refers to the promotional materials a band might make up to pitch themselves to record studios, which would never be sold to the public. That's a different kind of thing from the '90s-'00s VK scene where you could and did see demos printed by the thousands.

Really good collectors will keep their ticket stubs and at least show it in the photos if they are selling goods from a show. I do that as proof that I was there, if I still have the ticket. But then I don't have a lot of music merchandise to sell. And it's a lot harder with the older stuff.

Back when there were more radio stations, music demos were more of a thing for pitching to them also. Sometimes they were labeled for promotional purposes only. And were easier to find even if they weren't to be sold also. In the US, limited stuff sold at shows was usually called a limited edition. I wonder if it was a translation thing that ended up with limited recordings at shows ending up being called "demos" in Japan? Or perhaps they were also viewed as demonstration recordings, even though they were sold or given to people attending? Semantics strikes again.
