Off topic, but in general my European classmates criticize the US so much in front of me. I don't get it. I don't go around saying bad things about their countries although I could XD I actually felt like I finally knew what it was like to be a Chinese person from the mainland in the US, haha. Chinese students at my law school shared with me about their experiences about that and now I really get it. I even feel more patriotic LOL. I'M AT THE READY TO DEFEND MY COUNTRY!

AMURICAAAAAAAAA

That's terrible, what a loser! XD Really, everyone was enjoying it though and it was really cool. I showed my Chinese friend Vincy a video of the fight and she said "Wow! Is that Lu Bu and the Three Brothers from that famous chapter?" She's so cute. I didn't mention it, but we went to Suzhou together and had the loveliest time. She's a sincere person, a genuine nerd, and I'm really going to miss her.
Either way, my Chinese friends from China and the US and my classmates said the place looks really cool XD
They also had an "Outlaws of the Marsh" City right next door. You could get a cheaper ticket and go to both. If you're ever in China you should check it out because you read it! I'll read it when I get back.

I don't know if you remember it, but they played that song that started with Zhou Yu laughing all "AHAHAHA."
My Mandarin teacher is from Wuxi. I mentioned the trip and he said Zhou Yu was Zhugey's equal and I'm like PSSSHHH NOOOO! He was so jealous of Zhugey. My teacher was surprised I knew that much.

I actually had a long conversation with one of the actors and I saw him several times throughout the day. I would call him a "chiquillo." I rode a horse with him when I arrived and later I realized he's an actor and was one of the horsemen.

After the show you could pose with the characters and even ride a horse with them! I rode with Guan Yu, on the same horse, and he went SO FAST. I thought I was going to fly off omg I WAS YELLING XD

I actually got a little melancholic remembering Zhugey's life. There's a gold statue of him by Lake Tai and I felt bad leaving him! I kept thinking about him leaving his little cottage, and never returning ;___; *weeps on her sleeves* Du Fu was so right.

Premier of Shu (Temple of the Marquis of Wu)

Where to seek the temple of the noble Premier?
In the deep forests outside the City of Silk:
Such beautiful reflective scenery of spring,
And among the leaves the orioles sings.
Three visits brought him the weight of the world.
Two emperors he served with one heart.
But yet he failed to complete his quest before death.
That always makes heroes shed their tears like no other.

It was so surreal being able to go INSIDE his (TV) cottage, and I remembered it from the show!
Can be seen here:
(Song always makes me sad...)

I'll upload some pics to give an idea of how it was. It was way better than I expected and even my mom thought it would be a small nerdy place. She can't believe I didn't go earlier. They even had little speedboats! And these plastic floatations things you could roll inside on the water...

I'm writing on my phone right now so I can't show pics. @.@ (I can't tell if it's working!)

Is it that they acctually criticize America in a insulting way, or is it that you're sensitive? ;)
I'm a European, who criticize America, and I try and do it in a non insulting way, politics is a sensitive topic so I believe it's important to keep in mind that everyone has the right to their own opinion.

The thing though, (this is obviously just MY opinion and I don't mean to insult in anyway) I get the feeling that Americans' themselves are too afraid to be negative towards their own country. I've had the discussion regarding weapons in America so many times and it just doesn't seem to get through to Americans (or at least the ones I've talked with): The reason you have so many deaths caused by guns, is because it's legal! We obviously also have deaths caused by shootings but it's nothing compared to the US! and the best part is most people say they have them to defend themselves from other guns. If you remove them all thogheter there wouldn't be a problem (or at least as big).

Another thing which frustrates me a bit is the tax. In Sweden we have pretty high tax (around 30%) but we get so much in return, raising the standard of everyone in society. It's free to go to university, we don't have health insurnace (well we do but it's not neccessary so barely anyone has one), we have a roof of medication costs (when you've paid around 200$ for medication you get it for free, and even before that you get medication heavily discounted. My dad once got his medication for as low as 1$. Same with visiting a doctor/hospital, when you've paid around 100$ you go for free). People can take paid time off to take care of sick kids, and even other relatives if it's serious. We have 3 years paid maternity leave, FOR FATHERS TOO (who acctually has to take at least 3months off). All of this is because of our high tax, but it's worth it.

I've never been to the US, I'd really like to go because it seems like a great country in many ways (especially the nature, and I also love the popular culture), but sometimes I feel like America is so wrapped up in its own glory, people doesn't have the time to acctually look around and compare to other countries in order to make changes towards the better.

And it's not like I don't criticize Sweden, I do :P (for example our housing situation, it's a catastrophy -.-'' I seriously pay a yearly fee to stand in line to an apartment. Guess how many years I've been in that line? 6 years! and it's still not likely for me to get an apartment.) We're absolutley not perfect in anyway, but one thing I'm really like about living here is that I acctually feel safe. I feel safe in regards that it's not likely to end up on the streets, not likely that I won't be able to get medical care, if unemployed I'd get money and help to find a new job. And we don't have much discrimination, people and politicians are constantly working towards an equal society where everyone despite religious beliefs or sexualorientation are welcome. If anything , I think it's common that people here criticize our own country, that's probably also why the patriotic feeling I get from Americans, and also other people like the Japanese, feels so foreign to me. Might be because our society has the law of jante as a base of thinking XD (for those interested https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Law_of_Jante)

Of course everyone has their own opinion, but it's mostly in a condescending way though so it's not what you mean. It's as though they don't THINK I know my country has its share of problems when I do. So here's an example:

So you know, even just from your post, it's as though you don't think I know about gun problems in my country and you're educating me on what the answer is, when you haven't even been to my country nor do you know what life is like in my country. You are not even directly affected by this problem, I assume as well. You see how that can rub some people the wrong way and stifle discussion? Who are you to tell me the answer? You're not having a discussion with me or providing suggestions, you're literally providing an answer and you don't understand why it "doesn't seem to get through" our heads. So you're basically saying we are too dense to understand (or we have some issue understanding) such a seemingly simple problem, and when you phrase it that way can you see why someone might not want to engage you and would instead be put on the defensive?

Even if I agreed with you on the gun control issue (which I have no strong opinion on so I'm not biased here) I would have been put off by how you wrote right there. I wouldn't understand why you were telling me this and it comes off as unsolicited answers. I'm not at all "afraid" of criticizing my country (another assumption by you), if you lived in the US you would see people criticizing the country and our leaders and policies all day long, but maybe you should take a look at your phrasing.

It's also hilarious that you would think we are "afraid" of being negative about our country with most people currently bemoaning the new presidency on Facebook, haha.

(And did you forget I'm American too? It just seems as though you're talking to a non-American...)

UGH SWEDES!!!

I'm a big supporter of Amurica learning from other countries. I think Amurica would get SO MUCH if it learned some things from China. China sends off people all over the world to learn (they have a habit of doing this) and I feel like we should be doing the same because we're not really "the center" anymore. China does this from technology to the law and it incorporates what it thinks fits into China into their system after they experiment and see the results. They take a concept and try it out on several cities. They even started running pilot programs on plea bargaining just this last September and seeing how it goes. I wish Amurica would be more like that.

Well, it's kind of difficult making an example of what I wrote since I did as to explain my side of the coin (as someone criticizing), I also didn't want to aim it towards YOU as an American, but just put my thoughts out there so I can assure you I didn't put on the lecture about guns in that manner when I talked about the issue with my classmate ;) I've never had a conversation with you either so I can't say that you and all American's like this, what I wrote was based on previous experience talking to some Americans, maybe I was just unlucky, finding the most American-loving, non-criticizing people out there X) But what frustrated me when I talked to my former classmate about guns was how we began talking about it and he said it was awful, I then asks if he's pro and he says yes, which leads to me asking why and he explains (like so many other) that he thinks it's a good way of protecting him and his family from, let's say robbery in your own home. And from there it went, and it just went on in circles because if you have a gun to protect yourself from a gun, that can only end badly. (see why I got annoyed? I didn't show it though)

But again, not just Americans, in the same group I had an annoying German guy who did all the things I mentioned above (he was constantly criticizing Japan, saying how it wasn't like Germany and how good Germany was . So maybe I got the complete wrong image of Americans :P)

So how do people get places to live there? Is it that hard for everyone?

If you're ever in China
lololololol
I hear they actually set up some sort of "Outlaws" theme attractions at the real Mount Liangshan (even though the famous marsh dried up 600 years ago or something) I doubt I'll ever travel to China or India though, it seems like a lot of hardship just to see the places from stories I read. (See also: "Journey To The West")

This is the face of men who are re-evaluating their life choices :|

The common thing for young people is to rent "second hand". People who don't need their apartment due to work overseas etc. sublet their apartments, usually for a lot more than they're acctually worth and for shorter periods (half a year, 1 year). I don't want do that since it's likely I'll end up at home anyway when the time is up, I'd also feel weird living in another persons home :/ The other option is to buy, some of my friends parents has taken loans to buy apartments for their kids which they will pay later. My parents don't have that kind of money.

Stockholm is a very tiny capital, and since they build so few houses we're forced to this system. But it's not just about standing in line for an apartment you then have to fill certain criterias. Most want you to have a full time employment with a monthly salary covering 3 or up to 6 rents. So for me, as a student working part time, I'm screwed :P I can only rely on the two above mentioned options.

It's so bad they ahd to restrict the rules regarding the queue system. About 10 years ago, parents could put their kids in line when they were born, now you can only apply the year you turn 18. But if you want to buy then of course you can start from the day your child is born (we have a queue for that too so people can get apartments faster than if you bid normally)

@flowersofnight: I dunno, there's so much to do. Even the museums are superior to the US ones XD It's like when they do something it has to be BIG. I'd like to go to India one day, now that I have Indian friends, but yeah, China's a whole other world and I love it. I think I’m really going to miss the spontaneous dancing on the street here. Where would you go for Journey to the West? XD (HIKE ACROSS CHINA.) I love that book too!
But again, not just Americans, in the same group I had an annoying German guy who did all the things I mentioned above (he was constantly criticizing Japan, saying how it wasn't like Germany and how good Germany was . So maybe I got the complete wrong image of Americans )
Yeah, just take a look at an Amurican’s Facebook page and you’ll see that no one is afraid of being negative XD AMURICA #1!!!!!!

ANYWAY, class ended and I had the sweetest time. I asked Alicia, a Chinese classmate who handed me two pieces of tissue paper at the start of the semester, if she could explain how I can print out the course materials in book form. She and her friend Landy said they can just take me to the printing place and show me. OMG WHY ARE THEY SO NICE.

Reshab forgot his scarf in class and they EVEN called the maintenance guy to help him find it. The four of us walked across the bridge to the main campus and they said they’d love to go to the United States. When Reshab asked where they wanted to go to they said, “The United States, of course!!!!!!! If I ever get the chance to travel I’d go there!” In SUCH an excited way that I actually felt humbled and flattered. I did a little victory pose to Reshab as a joke, haha. MURICAAAAA.

Reshab left and my book was successfully printed out for a mere $2.50. Amazing. Again, they were so kind because the file on my USB didn’t work so they turned on QQ and sent the file to themselves and opened it on the computer. They added me on WeChat and said they were going to eat in the canteen, if I’d like to come. I said sure!!!

They BOUGHT ME FOOD and we sat talking. They said they’re really trying to improve their English so they can get better jobs. Their English is actually really good as it is! Alicia thinks I have a great figure and that my English is great, oh man. They asked if life in university was the same as in the TV shows they see, haha. Alicia is from Shaanxi province and Landy is from Wenzhou. They both want to be business lawyers because they think it’s very interesting and just started getting this degree in September and have another year to go. They asked me about tuition for law school and it’s so much cheaper in China. They said that this degree in particular though is the most expensive at 22,000 RMB and that most graduate students get scholarships from the government.

They INVITED ME TO SEE THEIR DORM, even though they thought their room was currently messy. I said I’d love to and we went off. They were still worried about how their room looked but I said I’m super messy too. I arrived and it was a very small room for 3 people, no bathroom.

Alicia offered me some fruit and gave me the biggest banana from the bunch. I said my dad always tells me to eat bananas. I sat down and I said their desks are really pretty and not messy at all! :)

We had a long chat about what they want to do in the future and how hard it is to meet guys in Shanghai and in school, aw. There aren’t many parties or ways to meet new people and they see from TV shows that there are a lot of parties in the US and it seems like people form groups quickly. I said this is true. They said it’s just to gossip with me though that they bring this stuff up and it’s not as though they think about this all the time. Their parents nag them though about it! They asked to see a picture of Richard so I showed them my all-time favorite one! They said, “WASEI! So cute! So outstanding! OMG! He looks successful! He looks like a gentleman!” Oh my God, they are too sweet.

Alicia said she would like to see the world and wants to get a great job so she can travel. They think Shanghai is so expensive in terms of housing, but they like the city. I almost forget that they’re not from Shanghai. They feel lucky to be friends with me because there aren’t a lot of opportunities to make friends with nice foreigners. They’re not sure if it’s because they’re shy or they don’t see many. They can’t imagine having a 10 person class like I have in the United States, haha. I learned that Alicia loves spicy food and Landy does not. Go Landy.

They participate in an English debate club, which I think Vincy mentioned before, so they can improve their English. They said it’s intense and some Chinese students speak English so fluently. They only have 15 minutes to come up with rebuttals. They invited me to come see them sometime and said maybe I could even be a judge! :)

I don’t understand how they are so kind. Landy had to go see her cousin so we took some silly pictures with filters. They didn’t like the thought of me walking around in the dark (although I do this all the time, haha) so we all walked in the same direction. I said I wanted to spend a little more time with them so I didn’t mind walking with them further. They felt so flattered! We linked arms and they said Chinese girls link arms often. So we walked with arms linked through Zhongshan Park.

Landy and I went to the subway and Alicia went somewhere else. Landy said she’s going to tell her mother all about me, that she met a good and interesting person from the United States, she thinks this is so special! OMG. I said I’d tell my parents about them too!

GOD THEY ARE SO NICE ;_______;

Start walking to India, then see a really mean-looking guy, start crying, and give up. Repeat 100 times ::meev:: Avalokitesvara, protect me ::zetsubou::

About 10 years ago, parents could put their kids in line when they were born
Yeah, here we don't worry much about housing, but we start saving money for kids' college educations the day they're born. These days it costs about the same as buying a house outright. Even my college costs about twice as much now as when I went, and it wasn't that long ago.

Don't worry everyone, Daddy's home. ::cred::
Welcome back ::gaku::

I spent election night completely and utterly shithoused once I saw how things were going. Also slipped up with the no smoking thing because despairing drunk logic. Got my head back together the next day when I sobered up.

I work with an alarming number of racists, I discovered. The way people have been acting since has been incredibly disheartening and I am legitimately afraid for all of my friends who are not straight white dudes.

Why though?

Trump has genuinely supported LGBTQ people for far longer than Hillary has, he even stated his support for them at the RNC to massive applause. Hell, his first three appointments to his admin team were a black guy, a gay guy and a woman.

Trump doesn't genuinely support anyone but Trump. Neither does Hillary.
Don't go making correlations that don't necessarily exist lol

But other than that I mean ok, Trump hires a woman. He probably thinks she's hot and wants to bang her.
One or two cases where he isn't an asshole to women doesn't negate all of the millions of times he has been.
As for LGBT I'm pretty sure he couldn't care less. Or whether we kick out all immigrants and Mexicans.
He also really, really doesn't care about abortion regulations or religion.
He or someone advising him just knew what to say to get people's support so he said it.

The problem is indeed his idiot followers who now feel justified in acting out on their prejudices.

Basically all of this. Furthermore at his own political rallies he has actively promoted a violent mindset and behavior. That does not a stable or safe post-election environment make.

Also, my mother's abusive ex fiancee hired a female lawyer for the custody hearing for my half sister. Did that make him less of an awful misogynist? No, but it did make him look good to the judge.

Or she was the woman who ran his (successful) presidential campaign. Plus, he is already banging Melania.

He cared enough to wish Elton John well at his wedding back in 2005.

There's a lot to celebrate this holiday season. Elton John married his long-time partner David Furnish on December 21. That's the first day that civil partnerships between gay couples became legal in England under the new Civil Partnership Act

....

In any event, I'm very happy for them. If two people dig each other, they dig each other. Good luck, Elton. Good luck, David. Have a great life.

He cares enough that he has a strong personal stance on it and doesn't think it should be federally funded, but it is still likely that whatever comes to replace ACA will have some provision for it. It is a controversial topic even amongst supporters.

religion.

From his policies -

Religious liberty is enshrined in the First Amendment to the Constitution. It is our first liberty and provides the most important protection in that it protects our right of conscience.

...

If I am elected president and Congress passes the First Amendment Defense Act, I will sign it to protect the deeply held religious beliefs of Catholics and the beliefs of Americans of all faiths. The Little Sisters of the Poor, or any religious order for that matter, will always have their religious liberty protected on my watch and will not have to face bullying from the government because of their religious beliefs.

Still doesn't matter about that woman. That one woman...come on, you know this.

As for Elton John, perhaps he likes him.

And his policies are political rhetoric. At best politicians lie an average of something like 60% of the time. But I'm not saying he's lying. I'm saying he doesn't care what he's said.

The reason he's so dangerous, aside from giving idiots a feeling of justification for being idiots, is that no one has any idea what he's going to do or what he believes. I don't think he's stupid, but he sure is a self-serving sociopath.

Dropped my phone in the cats' water dish. It's sitting in a bag of rice right now.

The real tragedy here is that, due to my inability to remember my password, I am unable to gently taunt Gackt on Twitter.
