There's a new preview of Kalmia's upcoming EP.

This is awesome. It has this retro, Kaya, Synthpop, Darkwave - ish feel. Powerful tune.

Kalmia - Secret Novel

So the 3 track EP came out a while ago. I got it on the day of release (It's a direct download). You can listen to a preview of it on the Band Camp website. If you enjoy the preview, you'll probably enjoy the EP :) It's a pretty good representation of what you're going to get.

As for me, I wasn't stunned by this released, but I liked it well enough. I feel like Kalm writes better music for Velvet Eden, but I like that he also writes his own music that he feels like writing. I felt like Choose/Palm was a better EP, but that's just personal preference. The production quality of this one is very good, and that's an area where Kalm has always seemed to excel. Kalm's singing voice will be very hit or miss with people, but it has improved since the early demos.

So yeah! Check out the free preview! The EP is only about $4 for the 3 tracks, so it's worth it if you find yourself enjoying it :)

I also think the music he writes/wrote for Velvet Eden is better, and I was not sure about wanting to buy this but I think I will.
I like his voice, it's a nice reminder of "Street of Alice".

I think it's cool to listen to him work with other artists as well as his solo stuff because you can really see how the input from who he is working with influences his music. For example, Kaya has a very specific style that is very "Kaya" and it seems like most people who write for him adapt to his style. (Even Misa wrote music that was uncharacteristic of his normal style for Kaya.) Kalm's music there sounds very different from his work with Velvet Eden, which sounds very different from Kalmia, but you can hear elements that make it sound like a "Kalm" song. I guess One Caress sounds to me like a Kalmia song as sung by Dada, but that's the only one that stands out. (And Silk didn't really sound like a Kalmia song, but that might be because I heard it with Velvet Eden first and the Kalmia version sounds kind of like a self cover of sorts)

I am too little of a Kaya fan to tell, but I like him as a person a lot. Seems to me he likes people, which is probably why he always manages to get what he wants from them, on a professional level anyway. :P

It's hard to exist alongside Dada, which is probably why Velvet Eden was short-lived, and it's also hard existing without him, which is probably why Kalm's music outside Velvet Eden has been good but not great. In many ways, they make me think of the dream team that Elton John and Bernie Taupin once were.

Does anyone have a higher quality image of this? I've always been curious about the source.

I heard this song recently and I just feel like it was definitively an inspiration to Kalm when he was working on KALMIA.

Also new releases from Lost Souls and KALMIA should be coming up..

Did ya'll listen to Inf*da Sc*la ? I really didn't like the voice at first, but I really liked the instrumental in Scale so I got myself used to it (the songs are on spotify) and tbh I'm starting to like the project more and more lmao. St*rbat Mast*r is hardly listenable though...

I like offkey songs often, it's one the things that I like about his music, but the project isn't my favorite.

(Writing this out "encrypted" because I don't want this conversation to be found by trackers)

Does anyone listen to drop? The singer used to collaborate with Kalm on the shortlived Nymphis project. They do releases pretty frequently and recently they released this song which I really like because to me it has several specific elements that remind me of Neluhus Vagus by BLAM HONEY. (Lullaby like melody, tons of distortion and dissonance, a heavy emphasis on percussions, slow bpm, belted head voices in the mix etc) I love the vibe of their songs.. an eerie sound that emanates a sort of distorted past.

Edit : probably just a nerd thing but if anyone was interested in knowing, the official KALMIA font used to be this Frys Ornamented

I liked InfidaScala a lot even though i consider the vocals kind of out of pitch or maybe just annoying haha.
As for drop i am in love with everything they release but i can’t really find the resemblance to Neluhus Vagus there ):
I remember once you posted a little part of “In your eyes” on tumblr and i was pretty impressed by it, not as with the new Kalmia releases which have passed through without leaving a significant impression maybe i should give ‘em another try.
Also he recently posted all the nymphis songs on soundcloud and i wish he’d posted the lyrics too ):

I understand, I often have my own way of interpreting musical elements :P.

I get what you mean. The only song I regularly listen to is Secret Novel. I think his songs are still great, but he's exploring a different genre.

Btw, in a live only CD they'll be releasing a Kalmia song I've never heard about. Is anyone from scape thinking of going to this event ? Being able to hear his new stuff in years would be really nice.

I'm not up on the drama, is Kalm one of those guys who'll delete everything if he finds out people like it?
The band I was referring to doesn't have a large following and doesn't have that much info about it on the internet. I wouldn't like for the little info that's available about it on the internet to be negative haha.

As for Kalm he's a bit secretive about his past music. (the songs he has posted of his old project, except for silk, have always been in a limited format) But he isn't dramatic about it haha.

Ok so I just spoke with Takmi (one of the label managers and a band member of Lost Souls (which is a great project, love their music)) and he told me the songs would be available next week for free ! Also he gave a me a link to their bandcamp that features their label's V.A. releases and it features a Lost Souls track and Older Than East by Kalmia (an old track) which is enjoyable.

Also don't quote me on this but I'm pretty sure Soundcloud downloads are always 128 kbps so it's nice to be able to download them in their full quality, especially since the instrumentals are usually detailed. (I hope they release Your Empire Falls Down eventually, it's my favorite song by Lost Souls for sure, and can't wait to hear the new Kalmia song)

I wonder if the Time of Sorrow release on their bandcamp is different from the one on their soundcloud since the soundcloud version was a demo. I'm not entirely sure if the arrangement was mixed in a different way.

But.. not to instigate drama (I'm only saying telling this because I feel like it's a sensitive topic and somewhat important topic), I'm not too sure about how I feel morally when I support D** L** ever since I found out about this post from a youtuber I used to watch and that I respect.

Anyway.. I'm happy Lost Souls and Kalmia are getting new releases this year :)

Edit : I don't know if I'm hearing incorrectly but I think the vocals were mixed higher in the V.A version, which I'm not super fond off because I'm all about the instrumentals but to be honest I'm not entirely sure haha

This is old but there's an unreleased song that I've been looking for for so long ! LAST MIND...... I'm lowkey mad that it wasn't on his mastertapes.

Interesting! I've not heard of that one either. I'll have to ask him about it.

It's honestly not surprising to me though, since I have songs of his from the past that were not included in his KALMIA master tapes/discography set either that he sent to me. It seems certain ones were chosen, and others not. Perhaps he lost some of the master files to said songs when his computer crashed years ago. :(

I agree, there is an eerie, dark beauty to them that I don't find in other composers' songs. I'm looking forward to new releases by him as well. :)
